  1. Let me start by saying that by nature I am not as organized as others on here. I look at all these wonderful tank builds and the step by step documentation of all the work but I know I can never do that [emoji31]. Too lazy.

I wanted to document the process of setting my new build for quite some time now but never got to it. I got the tank a couple months back and it has been sitting in my garage for while. Finally made time last month and started plumbing for bean animal drain.

This is a DSA Tank with three drains and two over flows. So it made it easier (hmmm may be the term easier is relative as it took me a while to tune) to incorporate beananimal design

I have a 75 gallon sump Which I wanted to incorporate the ro section instead of having the two 5 gallon containers I had next to the tank. By the way my wife hates seeing those and made it a point to tell everyone who came over.

So I closed in a section about 13g inside the sump just for Ato

    Equipment:

    3 Radion gen 3 pro

Jaebo dct 12000 (TY Ty I know that would you crazy)

Skimmer sca 160 (will need to upgrade)

3 mp40 and 1 mp60. But not using all yet

    Reefbrite led strip for fuge/sump

    Apex controller

I have 48" coralife t5 fixtures I may add later.

I already have the space in diy hanging kit I am using for Radions. Will get a pic of it later and add it.

Finally setup rock (thanks Kim and Tim for the video) added water and moved the fish.

Lost all corals as I neglected the old tank due to trash paly takeover.

So here it is as it is now

  4. D**n Ty. Just when I thought I could be a ok reefer. You start throwing all this medicine names and gram +ve and -ve. I give up. I was lazy growing up and that's why chose to make a career in IT . Looks like this hobby is harder than I thought.

  5. For the WP40s, I just keep two sets and clean and rotate them out every 3 months. That has been working well for me. Before that, I'd lose one about every 1.5 years just about.

For the DCS12000, I think I've had it about a year now if I remember correctly.

You can order it from Fish-street.com and pick their New Jersey warehouse to ship from. It's actually $100 on their website now.

    Done. Thank you Ty.

  6. How long have you been using the dcs12000? That's the new version than dct right? Where did you get it for 120?

I didn't have very good luck with wp40s. They lasted less than a year. If I turn them off I have to manually turn the impeller couple times to get it going even though it's clean. That's why I was a bit skeptical about Jaebo

I ran external for awhile with my reeflo hammerhead and I much prefer submersible. It's just much quieter and takes up less room under my sump. If I ever had a dedicated tank room with all the equipment in it, I would happily go back to external as the noise or space would not be an issue.

Another factor to think about is the relative efficiency of the newer DC pumps these days. The amount of wattage used to drive those pumps are just a fraction of the old Reeflo pumps.

I'm a big fan of my Jaebo DCS12000. I'd buy another one in heartbeat. Quiet, efficient, controllable, and plug n' play. I have an extra in case it sputters out on me. At $120 compared to the other pumps out there, it's practically disposable for something that moves 3,200 GPH.

To plug my external hole, I just used a PVC end cap that fit the bulkhead. I used a bit of silicone and then just twisted it on there... done!

  7. Also I am debating if I should just get a internal/submersible pump rather than external. Makes maintenance and plumbing a lot easier. I remembered why I changed to internal one on my current 90g after fiddling around with the pump and running leak test today on the new tank.

Glad I got a chance to talk to Tim. I have to seal the hole you helped drill or find a 2" plug.

  8. does any one have a 75 mm drill bit?

I also reached out to mike about seeing what he has available. But looking at the list in available equipment, i didn't see the size listed there

this is whats listed in BRS page

2" ABS Bulkhead Thread x Thread Dimensions (see diagram)
    A - 98mm/3.85"
    B - 73mm/2.87"
    C - 72mm/2.83" (Installation Hole Size)
Use our 75mm Diamond Coated Glass Drill Bit for DIY installation
