With help, I will supply pictures later. I caught one of these Sunday evening at the South Jetty. Not being a big fan of Peppermint Shrimp, I was tickled pink to put this in my 75G seaweed growout tank outside. Also collected some red macro algae that looked pretty growing amongst the rock. Also collected was some pretty Scroll Macro. I forgot to get the sandbed claims that were in abundance along the beach.

For me, this time of year is way tooo hot. I will do this again during the fall/winter. Hotel rates more resonable and pleasant weather to be enjoyed during the middle of the day.

    Patrick

Cool looking fish. Look forward to checking out your haul and catching up.

  2. So, is it less effective because of the encrusting coral, or about the same? It seems to make sense that the more covered, the less filtration, because the water can't get into the small surfaces of the rock where the bacteria breed.

  3. Hey guys,

I was wondering if anyone had an answer about this question I was pondering earlier today.

If a piece of LR is completed covered in something like GSP, does it minimize the ability of the LR to provide good filtration?

  4. Update:

Just received 2 19W Panorama Pros from Ecoxotic. Still in the box. Gorgeous color 12K + actinic. Perfect for nanos. Retail new $90 ea. Will sell with aquarium, power supply and blue actinic Ecoxotic stunner and aquarium all for $225.

If you ever wanted to improve your Display Tank's health while having something else wonderful to look at, consider adding a 20 gallon lagoon or refugium tank. Now's the perfect time while this is on sale. This tank is super if you want to grow your own healthly refugium as one of our esteemed members, Patrick (Subsea) has demonstrated in his multiple lagoon threads and postings.

And glasscages.com sets the standard for drop dead gorgeous Acrylic tanks. Less distortion than glass.

    Here's what you're getting:

20 Gallon Acrylic tank from glasscages.com with black back (paid $159 11/3/11)

    - email from vendor: http://img1.uploadsc...351835-orig.png

(very clean tank, a few small scratches, but nothing large)

This tank is the PERFECT refugium or lagoon tank because it has dual 1" bulkheads already drilled AND installed! Two bulkhead overflows = added security. If one clogs, the other still works!

Plus, it comes with PVC pipes as well.

All of this for only $55. The bulkheads alone will cost you close to $40

It won't last long. PM me and PayPal holds it until you can pick it up.

There are many advantages to owning acrylic versus glass when it comes to aquariums.

    • Because of the way it is molded, acrylic can be formed into any shape or size of aquarium whereas glass has many limitations. Shapes like cylinders, hexagons, and pentagons create a more decorative look. This enhances what is already a living piece of art even further.
    • The view through acrylic is far greater because there is less distortion than in glass. Seawater and acrylic have almost the same refractive light index. This allows your vision of the life inside to be as realistic as possible.
    • Plumbing and filtration needs can be accommodated for easily in acrylic tanks because acrylic is much easier to cut than glass.
    • Acrylic is lightweight, about half of the weight of glass. This allows for easier movement and transportation of the aquarium.
    • Acrylic tanks are very durable and won’t crack or break like glass can. (On the other hand it is true that acrylic can scratch, but the scratches can be removed easily. If you are careful with cleaning, you should not have any problems.)

There are also many benefits for the life within the aquarium when it comes to acrylic.

The greatest advantage would be the insulation factor. Acrylic tanks retain 20% more heat than glass tanks do. This allows for a more consistent water temperature for your fish.

In addition acrylic allows better penetration of light which is especially important for reef tank systems that rely on light for growth. Furthermore the ability for acrylic to take any form is a huge luxury for your fish and aquatic life. Acrylic aquariums can be made much larger than glass without the requirement of seams and bracing. The more space your fish have to swim in, the happier they will be.

Acrylic fish tanks are a great investment that will long outlive glass tanks while being more functional and decorative. Aquariums are a great addition to any home or business. They have the unique ability to capture the attention of every passerby and allow them a small escape from the hustle and bustle of life. Choose an acrylic aquarium as a lifelong favor to yourself and your fish.

  5. Just a reminder, it says at the top of this thread:

"understand when you commit to buy that the seller is probably turning down other offers, so be good to your word"

A good one to remember. I had someone here tell me he wanted to buy my fish and even schedule when to pick it up, only to tell me later, after I stayed at home waiting for the pickup (and multiple PMs gone unanswered), he changed his mind-- and this when finally I had to call him direct. No message, no text, nothing. Just the expectation I should read his mind after he committed to purchasing.

This happened over a period of days and I PM'ed to interested others the fish was already sold.

Please, everyone have the courtesy to remember this is a community and not some sort of cheap used car sales lot or flea market. Respecting members time and their commitments made is important for everyone.

And yes, I did request, (also unanswered), that he PayPal some money upfront. My lesson learned that nothing is sold until the money arrives-- I guess I just expected to be treated the same way I treat others.

  7. I'm selling the ocellaris clown which came with this tank. She's about 1 1/2" long with beautiful markings. Been alone in this 20 gallon for over a year, so I doubt there's any issue with disease. She moves to fast for my poor iPhone, but you can see:

    Asking $20 for the clown.

Also, update. Sold off the zoas and some of the frogspawn. Still have a very nice 4 head green tip frogspawn which I'll let go for $20.

I'm willing to let the leathers go for $10 each. Let me know. Also, I will be getting rid of the live rock this weekend, so those of you who are interested, please PM me! Thanks.

Hi Chipp, some of the events you selected conflict: Aquarium tour and fish collecting Sat afternoon; and MAAST BBQ Dinner and ARC Bonfire. Just wanted to clarify for others planning their schedule that you might be able to do both but that you'll most likely miss part of each event if you're doing the other.

    Hi Mike,

I'd prefer the Aquarium tour and the ARC Bonfire.

  9. Zoas are paid for and gone. There are some interested parties for both frogspawns. I hope to get all of this out on Saturday, so if one of you wants the LR and can meet me on Saturday at Aquatek at 2PM, then let me know ASAP, as I can bring it then too.

Anyone want the leathers? They're big. Just name your price.

  10. The Bean Animal overflow uses 3 bulkheads. You might want to Google it and learn about how it works. I suspect it's one inflow and two drain overflows. The second overflow is a safety outflow which can be setup to drain just above the main overflow. This way, if the main overflow gets clogged, the water will rise to the second overflow and drain out properly through it. Just a guess, but I've seen this done a number of times-- and it's a pretty good for peace of mind where overflows are concerned!

  11. Talked with Timfish and he gave me his opinion of what's here. Zoas are a deal-- and should go fast. Toadstool leathers-- not so much, so I'll entertain any offers. Frogspawn at $5/head is a good deal. The green frogspawn is gorgeous.

He said the 20 gallon acrylic tank at $150 is a steal, and I tend to agree. It already has two installed bulkheads and pipes, plus a cover with a brand new Panorama Pro fixture along with two older Panorama Pro fixtures (the older ones have some LEDs out) and a Ecoxotic blue stunner. I'm pretty sure you can get Ecoxotic to replace the older PPros-- I did recently. Just sent them pics of serial #'s and they send me new ones out. The PPros go for around $120 new, so you can see $150 including the tank and bulkheads, and top, and lights, is pretty fair price.

I also have a pretty nice and new RO-DI setup I'd be willing to part with for the right price. Been used less than a year. Still has documentation and many filters come with it too.

And, I'll also entertain offers for the whole thing.

  12. Hi all,

Picked up a VERY nice tank yesterday (with Subsea's help--- thanks Patrick!) and it came with some really nice Softies and LPS. The tank was *ultra* clean (small bubble algae and I saw one aptasia).

I'm looking to sell the following:

    Toadstool Leathers

    4-6" ~ $40

    6-8" ~ $55

    Zoa colony ~ over 100 polyps $65

    Gorgeous Frogspawn 7+ heads 6" high ~$60

Another smaller Frogspawn 5 heads $~25

Live Rock more than enough to fill a 20 gallon tank, guessing 20lbs: $40

pre-drilled 20 Gallon Acrylic tank from glasscages.com with black back (originally $159 11/3/11)

with 2 bulkhead overflows, canopy with LED lighting, sump piping and sump containers. See Pics..

    $150

    ---------------------------------

Or take it all for $385

  14. Looking good bud....love that blue sponge....

Thanks. That sponge isn't growing much. I wonder if it needs more light?

Looks like your feeding everything sterroids! What do you plan on putting in next?

Yeah. Your two duncans are looking super. I'll probably add an Occlelerius soon. I do need to aquascape, but just not sure exactly what to do. I suspect I'll put the GSP and encrusted gorgonian in the back, then group the rest by kind: acans, candy canes, duncans, zoas.
