  1. Always room for one more.

    Welcome.

    In regards to catching fish...

some of the LFS either sell or rent traps.

You put food in and wait...

I've heard varying opinions on how well these work.

(this coming from someone who basically dismantled a tank to catch a bi-color angel)

  2. Lighting is also tank specific.

I went with 2-250W MH Lights on my 6' tank.

I didn't use a third since there's an 18" glass brace in the center of my tank so I figured why waste money when the penetration will be minimal through the brace. I used 4-36" PC's (I wouldn't suggest going with PC's but I had them already. Go with T5's or VHO's for actinics as suggested).

Since I'll have less light penetration in the center of the tank I'm going to arrange my livestock accordingly (have the less light demanding species in the center of the tank and the SPS's on the sides. I've also found it's harder to work inside the tank in the middle under a center brace.

    There's my 2 cents worth.

  3. Karen,

Could you give me the name on the bag.

I went there and didn't see the pulverized limestone.

    Must have missed it.

By the way, I have buckets and a 32 gallon trash can you can borrow.

    Let me know.

  4. Just a few I had saved...

This is a local mom and pop hardware store (to which I have no affiliation)

but if it's beyond the realm of Lowes or HDepot you'll find it here in regards to plumbing supplies (all size hose, spaflex by the foot), nylon bolts, fittings, etc., etc.

    It's a DIY'ers heaven. lol

Another good local source for the "harder-to-find" items.

I'm sure you've found the local stores but I'll list two.

    Great people.

Carlos and his staff are always there for you (buying or not).

(Where I come from it's called "doin da right ting") lol

  5. Thanks for the kind words.

Took a few pics of the stand tonight (finally done)

I cut out the middle dooer section and built this screen for the front.

There are dowels in the bottom of the screens frame so you just line em up with the holes in the stand, drop it in and the top catches with magnets.

Simple, but gives my bulky hands free access to the sump/fuge as well as a little more ventilation.

  6. I uploaded pictures but no text. genius.

    This is my new 110g

    Specs are:

    Circulation-

Closed loop powered by sequence Dart

return - 2- 3/4" lines running into two SQWD's with four lines out

    Filtration-

    55g Sump/Fuge

    Terminator II Skimmer

    Mag 5 return pump

    Lighting-

2x250W SE MH w/10k XM bulbs

4x96W PC's for actinics (I know, but the PC's were "free" so don't go into the "T5, VHO" debate please)

    Canopy and stand-

    Made to order

    Pics to follow

Thanks for looking and any input is appreciated (except for the PC's) lol

Hope to see you'se guys Sunday at River City

  7. As stated above...

I have a 55g. glass tank, 48x13x20, oak trim with back painted black, no scratches to trade for...

a 40g tank that holds water (can be scratched, glass or acrylic) but needs to be the same footprint as the 55 (48x13x16)

    Thanks for looking,

    Steve

  8. Dave,

    I'm sorry to hear that.

I feel for you. Had the same thing with my 110 glass.

Drilled it, painted it, bulheaded and ready to go.

Moved it inside the house and under the house lights saw it was scratched to (fill in your own explicative here)

    Back to your tank.

I know little about acrylic tanks but what about getting a new front panel, cutting and welding it in.

    Gentlemen ... is this possibe?

(I had looked into getting a glass panel and was going to replace it myself on my 110. Benswager Glass wanted $155 for the panel. I bought a used tank in perfect condition from Carlos at RC for a few bucks more so it wan't cost effective in my case.

    But in your case...

I bought a 1/4" sheet of Acrylic from Regal to use for baffles. It was a less than $30 for a 72"x12" sheet so even if the sheet you need is $100 (1/2" thick) and we can weld it on properly (I have saws, sanders, etc) it's better than $1,300.

I'm going to check it out.
