What size tank is that? Planning lighting over a 90
-
If you do decide to go for a bigger tank, All WYSIWYG (one of the new sponsors) can get you a pre-quarantined blonde naso. I think he plans on keeping them in stock too.

...WOW...

great info all!!! Been planning an LED build for my 90 gallon. Ordered a little guy (6 LEDs) from rapid LED (sponsor shout out!) to ease myself into the world of LED lighting. It will just be lighting the little 10g in my classroom.
a knowledge bomb!?!?!? Bombs away please!

is that a shelf for the skimmer?

2 to 1 royal blue to cool white?
1 to 1?
would it be a good idea to have royal blue and some regular blue?
what about accent colors?
amber?
red?
green?
cyan?
Does anyone have a good combo to create cool looking dawn and dusk looks?
What are your thoughts???

Kevin, depending on the spectrum you want, I would personally do less white than you have and more of the blue variants, but I tend to like closer to a 20K look. I have 28 RB with 14 CW and I am amazed at how much more powerful the whites are and how they drown out the RB... I wish I had done Reds and Greens in mine and may replace some of my whites and blues with those colors in the future. But even with those desired changes I love my LEDs!!!! It was money well spent...
I am not far from you as I live in CP so if you want to come check mine out you can. I also posted pics in a previous thread on LEDs, but can't remember which thread now...
http://www.austinreefclub.com/topic/21002-waterproofing-a-diy-led-kit/ on this thread is a few pictures of Woods' setup. I've seen it and it looks great! I believe his tank is 180 gallons and everything inside it seems to be doing great!

I bought some pond plants there probably a year or so ago and they're still going strong!!! Even survived the "cold" season

+1 to rapidled I ordered a kit from them and have seen a few others from them. They are super quick about replying to emails as well. If you are not sure about your soldering skills they even have solder free kits (plug and play).

keep an eye on the livestock classifieds, this is the easiest and usually cheapest way to get your liverock. Also, everyone I've bought stuff from on here knows a good deal about what their doing and is more than happy to answer your questions and show you their tank. Livesand also, often for free Since you are just starting you could even use a mix of live rock and dry rock (dry rock is much cheaper).

+1 to the practicing!!! I added an extra step of "going to petco to grab another tank" in the middle of building my sump because I cracked the first try!
-
If that falls through I'd love this guy for my classroom tank!

Had to miss the meeting for to work afterall. Looking forward to seeing the video!

I just found out I'll finally be able to make my first meeting, so you could just paint my name on it (fingers crossed)!

Was looking forward to making my first meeting but I've got to work (stupid SXSW) +1 to posting pictures or videos of the LED build!!! I'm about to try and assemble a kit from rapidled.com

I'm thinking of getting one of the kits from http://www.rapidled.com/
They have kits where everything just plugs in without soldering. I'll let you know for sure after payday if it's going to happen
Ya let me know, I have a soldering you can use if you want to save some $$$
Hmmmm
if you could help out with the soldering (haven't done any soldering since General Electronics freshman year of high school but could provide payment in the form of frothy beverages) this is the kit I was thinking of getting.

It is just going on the 10 gallon I have in my classroom.
thoughts anyone?

If you need to borrow one of those sliding rail guide things (probably not the official name), I've got one you can use. It attaches to the drill bit and makes sure you go straight up and down.

On the bright side, water shouldn't cost you too much as you will be able to just add freshwater since all the salt will stay behind. That's all I got as far as good news
