This tank featured on RC is a living proof that under LEDs one can grow beautiful, colorful sticks. What do you say MHers?

I used to have GFO reactor hanging on the back of my nano.
-
In my case the biopelets reactor became too efficient if I my say that. I stopped the GFO completely and reduced the biopelets volume.
-
I have done it before trying to fight the algae. GFO + Biopelets + Skimmer = starved SPSes reacted with R/STN.

Thank you all for your input, especially Max for the good link. i decided to play safe and set up the tank on first floor. The extra adventage would be a little cooler temp in summer.

Would it be OK to set up an 80G DT + 20G sump on the second floor? I am talking about a small two store house built in 2000. It would be nice to have the tank in a room where I spend most of my time but I don't know if the floor is going to hold this much. Any thoughts from people familiar with archtecture, construction or any experience in this matter would be helpful.

You can custom chose the LEDs for the Photon.
-
Mine do that too sometime, without any aparent reason.

I think the pink birdsnest has the ends more sharp but I could be wrong.

How does the rack look like?

By mixing kalk and vinegar you can increase the amount of kalk going into solution. So if simple kalk solution can't keep up with your corals demand you add a little vinegar and by doing that you can dissolve more kalk and increase Ca concentration. This is a risky business since vinegar also serves as a carbon source for bacteria so you have to keep a close eye on the water chemistry. Some people do it with success.

Looking good, I have the same combo. Thay have been living happily for three years, Goby doesn't mind the night shooting that wakes me up sometimes. I guess pistol is hunting at night.
-
Let's hope he stops there and will not take care of the corals once the bubble agae are gone.

I would be happy with the left highest branch only.

Still looking for a small frag of green digitata. LMK if you can sell a piece.

This Brazilian reefer has an unconventional tank, check the overflow design.

I agree with Patrick that live rock with its “microbiom” is overrated as absolutely necessary to process the nitrogen cycle. I came across a tank build on RC and was very surprised since the guy instead of live rock used plastic rock imitation from China. The tank was also bare bottom; anyway the colorful sticks were growing in this environment like crazy. He was feeding heavily and the only way of crap export was oversized skimmer. It is working for him and proves that live rock is not necessary.
Is this the tank you're talking about?
No, this is not the one I was refering to. I will try to find it and post the link.

Yep, more pegs and it should be nice and straight. If not, you can always glue the net directly to the rods (from the bottom?).
-
Bioballs do not produce anything . They serve as a "home" for bacteria. Depending on the environmental conditions (water flow, available nitrogen substrate, light, et cetera) these bacteria may or may not produce nitrate. This are just my thoughts.

Thanks, got it now. Do post the pics when ready.

My tank pH fluctuates between 8.2 and 8.5. No reason to worry. I don't remember to cross any case of too high pH on a reef forum.
-
Very neat. If you worry about sagging, you can add one more tab in the middle of the rods for support. I still don't quite get how are you going to attach the net. though.
Identification Help please

Looks like a green button palys to me. It doesn't sting, but it grows/spreads fast in right environment.
