Well my tank has a lot of frags and I wanted a frag rack that blends in with the tank and not just have egg crates everywhere.

I contacted aqua mag and they are no longer doing custom work. So after much consideration I decided to make my own frag rack rock.

After researching on how to make man made live rock I looked into magnets. Oh man never knew how expensive they can be but I took the plunge and bought some online.

The materials to make the live rock isn't that much but it's way more then you will ever need.

I used the 3-2-1 method ( white Portland cement, crushed oyster shells, and course salt)

Mixed everything together and put the magnets in place so I can place the rack anywhere. While It was wet I created the holes for the frags. I made it so I can have any frag on my rack ( square, circle, or plugs) after that I waited 24 hrs for it to dry.

Took out the frag racks washed them and tested it out and well the rock was too heavy for the magnet so I did a lot of trimming and that fixed that issue. The other thing about making your own live rock is that you can't just throw it in the tank because your ph will spike. So I now have them in a buck of water that I change out daily until the ph is back to normal which can take from 30 to 90 days .

On the plus side I learned a lot about magnets lol

You can't avoid ich if you had a break out just wait 4 to 6 weeks to add new and maybe run a UV to get any floating ich

To me you pulling the fish out and qt will stress them more ich is within all fish and just appears when they are stressed so its hard to avoid

I think it's you get what you pay for there's a reason AI Vegas and radions stay on top and priced so high I think and I don't have to have many fixtures to accomplish what I want color wise. I am sticking with LEd as I've seen my personal corals coloring back up and growing. I see a lot of people with other led's and well the color looks ok in there tank but when I put it in mine it's brown. Corals I get from friends with radions and AI the color stays when I get them in the tank but I notice alot of people running their led too high and the corals semi bleaching so I think if you get some make sure you can dimm them.

I got AI Vega color and I love them. I like how I can still use some setting with out a controller and that j don't need to hook up a laptop to change setting. I do have the wireless controller and I'm able to do so many things and change all the lighting percentage really easy. I also have a program to acclimate corals to the light through the controller. I can also upgrade pucks if I want so much versatility with the AI Vegas and apex is coming out with a module soon or you can get directors cut when it comes out. It's an easy light to set up and have many options. Cover 24x24 are so only need 2 for my 120g sps dominated tank. Lights are super strong I have my highest setting at 75% took me a while to get my setting right but everything is doing great.

I have mine set at

Whites 55%

Reds 45%

Green 40%

Blues are at 75%

I have lps, sps, some chalice, one clam and zoas everything is doing great

I got bored and decided to build me a mixing station

I have 2 unions just in case I want to remove the pump to do something and another ball valve so when ever I decide to do a water change I just hook up the hose and run the water straight to the tank. I am using a mag 9 for the mixing. Build something inside the barrel to move water everywhere and not let anything settle at the bottom. Still need to clean the inside but it's pretty much ready to use.

I have a TLF 150 reactor I got from an arc member that I no longer need. Has a crack where the cap screw on but does not effect function or leak. I have tested it and is 100% working asking $25

Also have a blue 55gal drum I used for storing DI water and mixing salt. I did a drill a small hole for a float valve ( not included) asking $30 OBO

My stand is all wood. DSA still makes good tanks its just more expensive to do custom stuff through DSA then planet

Loving your tank, it is coming along very nicely!!! Can't wait to see this bad boy when those frags are grown out!!!! The planet tanks are absolutley awesome, they are really solid. Is your stand made by coastal?

Thanks, the frags are growing already. AI Vega's are great LED light corals are starting to get color up to. My stand was made by Planet also its called elegant stand. dont see wants so elegant about it lol but its really nice and i've grown to like it more.

awesome ya i understand about the overflow but i love that i have the whole tank to use. Planet definitely makes great tanks and so does DSA my last tank was a 190 from DSA. If you need help with plumbing lmk I built a manifold and it runs my return,chiller,UV,carbon and phosban Reactors. i could get it to run my bio pellets but i'll do it another time when i hook up the CA Reactor too. you can come by and check it out sometime if you want. I like the look of hard plumbing but having to take it apart in the future sucks.
