  1. I can't remember whether you have an apex or not, but if you have temp logs it would be a factor that you could quickly eliminate (maybe a temporary power outage that fixed itself when you returned home?). Otherwise, I'm trying to think of the parameters that would cause losses in such a short time period...Alk/Ca/Mg wouldn't cause receding, just lack of flourishing. So you're left with contaminants (painting, cleaning chemicals), pH issues, NH3, NO4, NO3, or something else?

i've tested everything and yes i have a apex.

    Hi,

I would check Alk level's, my old tank would drop 2.5dHH a day if I turned off my CaRx. Low alk will cause recession in sps if low, you make want to triple check salinity also in case something happened with your top-off method(i.e. somehow topping off with saltwater while away etc.)

    Cheers,

alk is 8.6 and sal is at .25 as always all equipment is working fine

  2. aug update

my fish are doing great and i still have all 16 clowns. lost my mallenarous wrasse when i got back from cancun.

but over the past week or so i been losing some sps.

dont know why did a 50 gal water change

i have better polyp extension but some are still receding.

    cant figure it out

it's been a pretty crazy hot week. how are the temps looking in the tank?

temp is fine i got a 1/2 hp chiller lol my tank doesnt travel beyond 79

  5. Pretty sweet Juiceman. Chip's acro is definitely one of my favorites. That last one looks like a pink jade but too early to tell... might have to grow out a bit first to really know. Looks great man.

    -Ty

Nah its for sure blue milli its a frag of my blue milli colony

  6. Nice addition Tim. I lost a couple of anthias as well lately. I think running a UV is a smart idea. I might need to add one when I move over everything to my closet. What size are you using? Brand?

That's a cool school of clowns. Keep us updated on how they do.

I got a used aquamedic helix 36 w uv and bought a new bulb. I decided on clowns as I wanted a lot of fish but couldn't add another tang or wrasse, I want anthias but they are finicky and didn't want damsels/ chromis so I went with a large school of true perculas to fill in the tank I think I am set on fish right now only wanting 2 other but I can wait

  7. June update:

i lost about 6+ (clowns, mydas blenny, fat head anthias, and powder brown, some chromis and some more) of my fish about a month or so ago

went 2 weeks without adding and ran a UV sterilizer

    i have since added

    mimic tang

    powder blue tang

    and 2 green mandarins

removed my yellow tang and traded for a smaller purple tang.

I decided i wanted alot of clowns in my tank

so had jake order me 16 true perculas

I got them in today and to my surprise i had gotten a couple of picasso's in the deal and they sent 17 of them so i got

1 black ocellaris and pulled one the picasso's and put them in my 40 gal AIO tank. and the other 16 went into my 190gal.

i took videos and will try to get them up when i can

in the mean time here are some pics sorry about bad pics the full tank shot was taken before i decided to put the clowns in the tank today

  8. While I have never had anything bigger than 150G tank, I do not long for bigger. I like 75G as a good size to maintain. With the 4' length, many light options to fit that tank. At some point, getting bigger generates its own problems. Talk with Timfish as he has set up more tanks in his maintenance business than most people in ten lifetimes.

    Patrick

what problems? i think smaller tanks have more possiblity of an issue then a larger volume of water would .the only issue i've expierence going bigger is it gets more expensive lol

  9. in my opinion you will prob always want to go bigger. i got my 190 and already wanting to upgrade again but prob wont for a while if i do i'm going 300+

Maybe i will buy your 190, sell ausvdub my 110 and you can buy your 300+. Win win for everyone.

Lol If I had the money I would

  10. hmm. so could any tank with very low nitrate and phosphate be considered ulns?

No ulns is reached beyond a normal tank with just low nutrients its get so low that your tank can become too clean. Thus why you overfeed to compensate and keep nutrients in the tank other wise you will crash the tank. As I am sure everyone knows that corals require some phosphate and nitrate. The reason why everyone does water change is to get rid of the high nutrients/ keep it in check. With bio pellets I have gone over 6 month with out doing. a water change. Carbon dosing keeps those nutrients down so no need for as many water change as long as you overfeed can dose essential elemental too.

  11. ULNS is ultra low nutrient system. The point of carbon doing (vodka, super, vinegar, bio pellets, Zeovit ect) is to achieve the ULNS so this is mainly done in sps tanks as they do not like high nutrients ( phosphate and nitrate ). But to also allow for heavy feeding. You also need a good skimmer for this and to make sure you don't strip you tank too much ( aka making it too clean) will cause sps to stn/rtn. So when carbon doing make sure you do over feed.

  12. I would recommend dosing microbactor 7 for 2 weeks then start the vodka. You need the bacteria and its a good way to start it then dose the vodka once you reach ulns remember to overfeed and if you don't do water changes to add the essential elemental back into the tank if you don't overfeed and add elements your sps will start to stn and possibly rtn. Not sure what will happen to lps since I don't keep many
