BTW, here is a (bad phone) pic of the unit I just got from The Filter Guys. It is a 5-stage, 75 GPD with Chloramine filter upgrade, and dual TDS meter.
Here is some additional information I found on their website regarding Chloramines: http://www.thefilterguys.biz/chloramine_filters.htm

So does this mean you have a 6 stage. Bulk Reef definitely has some 5 stage Chloramine filter setups which just have one or two different 'fills' before the RO membrane. Although admittedly uninformed I am surprised they would want the chemicals to hit the membrane first. I tried to call today but went to voice mail the only opportunity I had.

I was under the impression that in the Greater Austin area if you don't have your own well you probably have Chloramines. As ALWAYS seems to be the case there are different opinions on the net as to whether a special filter is required. Strangely the Chloramine refill kits from Bulk RS have different components than the preconfigured canisters are loaded with.
I did search CL today for Food Grade Water Storage and got a 55 gallon for $25. Being it was pretty close that sounded good to me. They had at least 3 different varieties of the 55 gallon.

No, I think it still remains a 5-stage, since the Cholamine filter uses the same housing as the RO membrane. You can see the diference between a 5 stage and a 6-stage here: http://www.thefilterguys.biz/ro_di_systems.htm It looks like the 6-stage just adds another RO membrane to increase the GPD.

I think Brooks tried some and it made his skimmer overflow several times. Might check with him.
Thanks, but I am not too worried about this, as it will be a few more weeks before I even get water in the tank. The epoxy should be completly cured by then.

You should be able to check with your city for a water quality report. This will tell you if Chloramine is added. Here is the report for the City of Austin:
http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/water/waterreports.htm
This report shows Ammonia is present in the Austin water supply, which a Chloramine filter will also block. This is why I added a Chloramine filter to my RO-DI system.

The chloramine filter should go between the 3 stage filters and the DI canister. I just installed a new RO/DI with chloramine filter add-on last week, and this is how it came set-up.

I need to epoxy a few pieces of dry rock together. I did a quick search for Aquamend at Home Depot (which I know is reef safe), but did not find it on the HD website. I did however find this:
http://www.homedepot...96&ddkey=Search
Anyone ever try this stuff, and know if it is reef safe? I just want a backup if I go to Home Depot and cannot find the Aquamend.
Thanks,
JP

Its personal preference, I have always liked black on tanks that are not too deep (front to back) and blue on deeper tanks (30+" front to back). I like some of the ideas up-thread about doing something so you can change it later.

I plan to attend, and will bring $10 for a Premium Membership Card.

Thanks for the warm welcomes. I got the RO/DI installed last night, just need to get the stand built, then will be ready to get water in the tank.

Hello ARC,
I just wanted to say hello and introduce myself before officially joining the club (what's the procedure for that?). I recently moved to Austin (near 35 and Parmer) after spending the last few years near Boston. Before that I lived in Hong Kong and China for a few years. I started my reefing long before the last 2 moves when I was up in the Twin Cities area. My last 2 reef tanks were 90 gallons and 240 gallons. This time, I will be starting a little bit smaller.
Here is what I have going on and planned:
I bought the new-in-box JBJ Nanocube 28 HQI from Christan14 a few weeks ago.
- Ordered a new ballast and 2.18 factory lighting upgrade from nanotuners ( http://www.nanotuner...products_id=409 ), I should get this in a few days.
- Ordered an new RO/DI from The Filter Guys ( http://www.thefilterguys.biz ). Should arrive today.
- Bought a new Eshopps PSK-75H skimmer, which arrived last week.
- Will be staring to build the stand this weekend.
If anyone is interested I will start a build thread when I get going on the stand.
Look forward to meeting you all soon.

Loctite Marine Epoxy - Reef Safe?

Its all I could find at Home Depot, so I used it. I think the general consensus is: if you let it cure completely, it will be OK. If it is not completly cured, your skimmer may go crazy for awhile.
