I was out on the cape when one was spotted there last year. I did not go in the water....

Great to hear that my little Perc is not completely crazy. It is interesting to watch the starfish moving around the tank, and the clown right next to him, wherever he goes.
-
I went on a little shopping spree this weekend. One of my stops was Fishy Business where I picked up the following:
- A small tank raised True Perc Clownfish
- A small LTA
- A medium Orange Linkia Starfish
All three were in different tanks. Now, the hope was that the clown would pair up with the LTA. What actually happened is much different. In two days, the clown has not strayed from the starfish. It really looks like he is hosting with the starfish. I have heard of tank raised clowns hosting in bubble corals, hammers, even torch corals, but a starfish?
Has anyone ever seen this before?
A few (not so good) pics from my iphone:

Are yall sure the Aqualifter will push water 5 feet high? Aquatek on Burnet Rd. carries them.
It should be able to pull up 30", and push out 30". As long as I keep the pump in the middle (and I have a shelf there), it should work.
-
Thanks for all the advice. It looks like the aqualifter is the way to go. I have never been down to Aquadome, but looks like I have a reason to now.
-
The aqualifter pump is inexpensive and works perfectly on my two ATO's.
Thanks. Anyone know if the aqualifter is available locally? I just checked at RCA and they do not have it.
-
I need a pump/powerhead recommendation for an ATO on a small (28G) nano tank. I am looking for something that has a very small flow (almost a trickle) at about 5' of head. Anyone have experience running a MJ400,600,900 at about 5' of head? How about a Quite One 800?

PM sent. Interested in a 3-5 head frag.
-
Check it out at exactly 2:30, it looks like the clown is singing along to the music. :-)
-
Bump....And price drop to $150 plus a couple of frags of almost anything. I will give it another couple of days on here before i post on craigslist.

I have a like new 23" Dell wide screen HD monitor that I want to get rid of. I thought I would post here before craigslist. Here are the details:
I bought this as a temporary solution when in-between laptops, and used it for about 2 weeks. I packed it back in its original box when moving down to Austin, and have not touched it since then (February), so I would not consider it brand new, but very very close. Retail price is $239.00, I will sell it for $170, plus a frag or two of any softie or LPS (just to keep it reef related :-) ) The monitor has a 3 year warranty, but I am not sure if I can find the receipt (Allot of things still MIA from the move). If you have any trouble with it, I will gladly refund the money.
Also, we have a lamp from target we need to get rid of (Turns out the pink/red does not go well in the baby's room, since we are having a boy). I will throw the lamp in with the monitor if you want it, or anyone can have it for $10 or a frag. The lamp:
Let me know if your interested!

I am planning on attending. Sounds like a great time.

If these are still available this weekend, I will take them both. I am out of the country this week, so if someone else steps up and wants them before I get back, they can have them. If not, I will PM you on Friday or Saturday.

I am interested in the Nano or the K2 if the Colonel has not picked it up. I just left you a VM with my cell #
Go for it, I was just going to use this as a size test to see if I wanted to buy a few. Since I may not be able to get up there to buy it for a few days, I will pass on it. Its all yours....

PM sent on the Koralia nano.

Thanks for hosting the meeting, it was great to meet some new people!

TDS?
in Reef Keeping
I have a dual TDS meter hooked up to my RO/DI; however I run one on the RO and one on the DI (not too interested in what the TDS is coming into the system). I get 3-4 out of the RO and 0 out of the DI.
-
I am originally from Wisconsin and Minnesota where they literally dump thousands of tons of salt on the roads each winter. If that is not causing any damage, I doubt the water from an aquarium would, so I used to just walk out to the curb and dump it in the gutter.

Thanks for the comments!
I have a chiller plan as a backup if all else fails. Nanotuners does have a fan upgrade, but the only real advantage is it allows you to power the fans separate from the light, so you can run the fans for an hour or so after the main light turns off. I did buy the C-Breeze Adjustable Clamp-on blower here: http://www.nanotuners.com/product_info.php?cPath=68&products_id=586 from them. Hopefully this along with good AC will be enough, but will just have to wait and see.
I should have the stand completed in the next few days, and will post some more pictures then.

I thought I would share the progress of my new 28G nano. This is my 3rd reef tank, previous two reefs were 90 and 240, so this is a bit of a downsize. I wanted to go smaller, as we do not have the room for a big tank, and well, I just wanted to go smaller....
Feedback/suggestions/criticisms are all welcome!
Starting off with water. I got a new RO/DI from The Filter Guys (highly recommended, as they are reef guys):
Here is the RO/DI installed under the kitchen sink. I originally had the RO bypass hooked directly to a small faucet for drinking water, but the flow was just not enough to make this feasible, so now I just fill up a few jugs for drinking water directly from the RO bypass tube, and throw them in the fridge. The unit has a dual TDS meter and it is reading 4 ppm from the RO and 0 ppm from the DI.
Next is the tank and skimmer. It is a JBJ 28G HQI, but I tossed the stock skimmer and got an Eshopps PSK 75H. I have not fired the skimmer up yet, but it looks like a quality skimmer and will be way more than enough for this tank. I had to do a little dremmel work to the back lip of the rim in order to get the skimmer to sit far enough back to have the hood as much as I would like. (Dremmel work not in this picture.)
I got some base rock from David (Prof) just to see how it would look. I epoxied some of the pieces together to make a solid base:
I bought the 2.18 Factory Retro kit (Both bulbs Actinic ) from nanotuners. The install was easy, took about 1.5 hours. I will post some pick with the lights fired up later (right now, it is sitting too far from the outlet. View of installed 2.18 upgrade:
Last nights project was the stand. I wanted a very specific size stand, very tall, narrow and deep. The stand is 41" high, 20" wide and 30" deep. This gives me plenty of room behind the tank for the skimmer and whatever else I decide to add later on, and also gives me enough room to get a 20G (or so) sump, if I decide to add one later on. I had David (Prof) cut the plywood for me (Thanks!), and like the way it turned out. I still have a lot of wood filler, sanding and trim work to do, then a very dark (possibly black) stain. I will also add a few shelves, and power strips inside.
I could not resit putting the tank on the stand to see how it looks:
From the back, you can see the extra room behind the tank:
From the front:
That is basically where I am right now. I will be out of town this weekend, so will work on finishing up the stand early next week. Then, hopefully, have water in the tank by the end of the week. I will keep this updated with new pics, as I go forward.
Thanks for looking,
JP

There was an online retailer that used to ship hermits with just a damp paper towel in the bag... and they survived the couple of day trip through the mail.
Yep, Keys Critters ships snails and hermits dry. See here: http://www.keyscritters.com/Acclimation.htm

The loctite is nice an thick, very easy to work with. I sprinkled some sand over the exposed epoxy before it cured, and it looks very good. I tried to pull a few pieces apart after curing for 24 hours, and it was solid.
