  1. Sweet pics Mitch! I stopped by the booth today to check out the cameras, pretty sweet was almost tempted to pick one up. I think I'll give it +1year to see what they can do with the resolution but overall pretty sweet technology, I was really surprised to see how small the camera was, not sure what I was expecting but it was nice to see. Thanks for posting your photos!

The new maker bots looked really neat too, did you see Bree Pettis' panel? I can't wait until the prices come down on the 3d printers/digiters...

  2. Arg, I know that GHA can be frustrating. I don't think any sort of CUC including a sea hare is going to help you if it grows back rapidly. You need to figure out where the PO4 is coming from and then get that under control. Are you running GFO? Here is a thread from my experience last year, maybe something in it will help you: http://www.austinreefclub.com/topic/23804-my-battle-with-gha-a-story-of-success/

One thing to keep in mind with those sea hares is that if they decide to crawl somewhere in your rock work and die you might have a big problem on your hands if your tank is heavily stocked. It's for this reason that I no longer use them as I cannot simply remove my rockscape to get at anything that doesn't make it.

  3. Ya, I quit tumbling carbon after I read that. My hippo has mild HLLE and it has not gone away completely although I've seen much improvement. I quit tumbling carbon over a year ago. I now only use carbon as needed, and only tumble it when I need to get something out of the water column rapidly.

  4. I had a tri color colony up here at work before my tank crashed and I could only get it to color up if I placed it really high in the tank like 1" below the water line under 150W MH. Otherwise it was brown.

  5. Kids will be kids guys, come on! As etannert mentioned no harm no foul if the dry side gets yanked off the tank, typically you secure the dry side to your tank to prevent drops. If I had to chose between a MP40 and a nano I would go with the nano wave box.

  6. I don't think you could seal it with silicone as I think most of the water enters where the grabber attaches. And since there is a cable running up to the handle the grabber needs to move along the frame for it to open and close if that makes sense. The drain holes is an interesting idea, I think that might work or atleast help

  7. I've got a number of these running on all kinds of things including my tank (I also run a chiller during the warmer months)

It's weird because Amazon had these as prime all day for $18.99. It is the exact same fan as the Tunze: http://www.marinedepot.com/Tunze_Aquawind_Aquarium_Fan_Cooling_Fans_for_Aquarium_Lighting-Tunze-TZ8611-FILTACAF-vi.html ... perhaps they are discontinued.

I paid for the Tunze a few years ago and they are literally the same thing, the Tunze fan even has the PacificBreeze branding.

  8. I was toying with going LED on my heavy SPS reef recently but my thoughts mirror JeeperTy's exactly. I've since ordered new bulbs (MH) and will give it another year to see what happens.

At this point I'm still not willing to be an early adopter of the technology (it is still early) given the fact that my tank is thriving under MH.
