1. Well that kind of sucks. I bought it some type of long tentacle leather or something. At night the tentacles go back into the base, and it looks a lot like the picture I attached. Mine is mounted mounted on a rock with some zoas of some sort, and the tentacle have little flowers at the end, when fully out.

  2. Well, I think I am going to have to take the advice and get rid of her. I guess I thought I had I would have enough time to grow her in the larger tank before we were able to get a more appropriate sized tank. Unless... I sold this tank, my new tank and another I have sitting around and can find a great deal on a 100+ gallon set up lol.

  3.
How big is your tank?
Don't hate me, but a 20 gallon. I just about have our stand done for the 58 we got, and should have it starting to cycle withing the next week or so. After talking to Shane yesterday he suggested she may be stressed from the size tank. She doesn't show signs of stress at all, no pacing or fidgeting, hiding, flashing or anything. But I don't want her to start either, so the new tank is now #1 priority. The 58 is the biggest we can go for the next year.
I did a water change yesterday and really rooted around to get it as clean as I could. I took out most of the rocks to get to more of the bottom. Later in the evening I went to feed, and since I didn't have the garlic extract yet, I took two cloves of garlic and ran them through a garlic press, then took some tank water in a glass and soaked the nori in there. When I put it in, she attacked it like it was crack. I still will get the extract, but have to wait until the weekend. I didn't notice any spots on her this morning when I turned the lights on. I know they are still there though, and I want her to be strong.

  4. My husband and his family used to train police dogs (mainly GSDs) for the Travis County Constables, along with other states, before his dad passed away a couple years ago. I got my girl GS from there when she was about 3 months old. The last 6 years she has been my shadow, my protector in a few different situations, but most of all my best friend. I did some basic training with her mainly obedience, some agility. Once your new addition bonds with you, no one will be able to come near the house. That's now THEIR house lol. My mother in law still has my dogs litter brother, and his son. I can't come near their house without setting them off. Even walking in, the younger one still stands between my mother in law and me, guarding her. The brother, well, he's plopping his butt on my feet until I decide to move lol. My girl will give a warning bark at the door when someone knocks. Then she comes and stares at me grunting until I acknowledge the door or her. Then she will wedge herself between me and the person. With my 3 year old niece, she herds her to stay near the couch, but if she wanders off, she will stick to her like glue. If you walk in with a hat, or sunglasses on, you will be inspected for a much longer period of time, than if you came in as yourself. One thing, don't ever tell a stranger your dogs name. If for some reason they break in, they have the ability to call your dog off...his name. If you have any questions, I would love to help. Just give me a shout.

  5. The spots are white. I do feed her the nori, aside from her only the lawnmower munches on it. I have the Nori from the grocery store, non flavored, and no sodium. Is that ok to use like the seaweed found at the LFS? Not sure how else to feed it to her, so I usually take about a 1/3 of the sheet and fold it like a paper fan, then in half and rubber band it to a rock and set it in her feeding spot. She ignored it for the first couple days and ate chaeto like spaghetti, and it came out the same way, which scared me. I thought it was worms, and it took me a few days to realize what it was. It was just coming out in clear strands. Now she just hovers and eats all day, then takes breaks to play in the current, then goes back to eating. How long should I leave it in there before it starts impacting the water quality?

On a side note,I want to worm everyone. I got two engineer gobies at the same time, both at 2 inches. The little one never grew, literally. The other one, has hit over 6 inches already, and his pattern is really showing nicely now. I saw the small one listlessly swimming about, so I put a breeder box in, and scooped him out to observe him for a few days. Somehow he escaped and I haven't seen him since. Maybe he died in their cave and the hermits ate him. I don't know. But can I treat the whole tank with Prazi? Will it hurt my anemone or GSP or mushrooms?

NS, thank you for the link to the article. I found it very informative.

  6. Thanks everyone. I really don't want to stress her out. I would hate to get her better in the QT, just to have her stress again when she went back home. She is not rubbing at all on rocks, sand, etc. She eats her Nori all day (much happier to see this come out of her than Chaeto strands), and still hoards the mysis like no tomorrow. She's always front and center, or playing in the caves and crevices or in the water flow coming from the power head. So I guess i can leave her in there for now. I do have a bottle of Fomalyn already on hand from treating my FW tanks for flukes so I will keep it nearby. Should I leave my lights on or keep them off? Should I increase the temp? I keep it at 78F. In my FW tanks, I when treated for ich, I just raised the temp to about 83, turned off the lights, and then covered the tank for a week. But I know SW is different in every way from FW. What kind of garlic? Is it the bottled liquid fish garlic? Or crushed whole cloves? Sorry I haven't soaked in garlic but once, and the fish didn't eat it lol.

  7. My Sailfin started showing ICH spots on her yesterday, and this morning I'm seeing more. My clowns are fine, so are all the blennies, or at least not showing spots. Is there a way to treat her in the tank? I have hermits and a conch snail too though. If the best way to treat her is in a QT, then I will have to set up one of my other tanks for now. I had to use it for a FW fish a while back and stored it when I was done. If I kept it bare bottom and put a few peices of LR in along with filling it with tank water, (filter and heater of course) how long would it be before I could add her in to start treatment? What treatment? I don't want to lose her. I have not added any fish, since I added the tang almost a month ago. But last week I did add a large "test" anemone. Would that have done it?

  8. wow! Congrats!

from what our doc said, premie babies end up doing very well.

That's good news to hear. She is anemic, and they are scheduling her to have a blood transfusion. He lungs are also underdeveloped. But from everything I've read, and talked to my dad about, I don't feel as worried. Everyone else on the other hand... totally different story. How is your little bundle? I saw him on one of your videos :D

  9. Congrats Melissa!

Our daughter was a preemie. She was born 10 weeks early and weighed 2 lbs 10 oz. Today she is a healthy active 11 year old :D

Thank you C&B. I like hearing stories like this. I relay them all to the rest of the family to show she will be ok. I was a month early and my little sister came 8 weeks early and we are both healthy and normal too. 2 lbs 2 oz.. wow That is so tiny. Now I have to go call my mom and find out how much we weighed lol

  10. Lower salinity levels have been known to trigger many fish into spawning(but can be quite detrimental to corals and inverts)

corals hate me anyways so I will just admire them from a distance, on the other side of peoples tanks lol. I'm no where near ready to breed them, so for now until we finish putting their new home together, they can just eat and dance all they want.

  11. How old do they have to be before they lay? I know one (who i believe is female) is two years old, the other not sure. What age or size do they have to be before they become "mature"?

Thanks for all the great replies too.

  12. OK, I should have posted this here first instead of trying to think for myself lol. I can't tell what types of clowns I have. I picked on up as a False perc off CL, and then asked Aquadome for another to match. Well, they are different (to me anyhow)t! What are they? Ignore the maroon. I took these pics when I was trying to get the Maroon. (Long gone btw) These aren't the best pics, so I apologize.

  13. I finally reread my post, and I realized I wasn't really clear.Let me try again lol. I only have 2 clowns total. I got what I thought was a false perc, so right after I picked it up, I went to the dome and asked for another to match her. But when I got them side by side in the car, they looked different. They still will not leave each other more than a few inches, and are acting like they are in love with a piece of real estate (rock). I should have first posted pics of them asking what they were to make sure. I guess I can do that now, and then come back with what I find.

  14. No more tanks for these guys after this one. We are going to be constructing a pond for some of my other monsters , and these guys will join them when its done. I stopped my mother in laws house on the way home with them, since she loves fish too, and when she heard the word "koi" she said, "they aren't from Zilker are they?" I said, "yep, and the all fit in this big 5 gallon bucket!"
