  1. Size is not a problem lol. I do wonder about the inpalement theory though? Unlikely considering the level of grace urchins have around my reef. Their spines are virtual sensors. Brooks have you had it happen or not riskin it?

  2. Actually this is my baby tank in my bedroom. You think this is good enough to start with brooks?

This tank is normally crystal clear (cleaned the front for a quick pict), and the only thing that scrubbs it is macro. I took the filter out last week to clean it and and there was absolutely no build up! No skimmer on this one either.

  3. I am curious what corals, fish and inverts can be housed in a sea horse tank? Im assuming all agressive corals are out, as well as nems? What about sps? I know you can have:

    Gobies

    Clowns

    Bangii

    Marine Betta

I am considering converting my 240g.

  4. Hey cyrus, is there a thread already on your mandarin-training method? I want to get a mandarin eventually, but only if I can find a relatively fool-proof method for training them to frozen. If you've got one please share!

    1. Make sure that your tank is white walled with pods, I use my 29g qt tank for good observation.

    2. Get frozen and live adult brine from Aquadome. They are at the check out desk and they have most constant stock around. Call in advance before you buy the mandrin.

    3. Purchase your new buddy.

    4. Place the bag of adult brine in your aquarium and clip them to the side. One bag usually lasts about a week.

    5. Allow for temp. acclimation and use a knife to cut slits in the bag to allow for circulation.

    6. Feed a only live for the first 3 days.

7 Gradually mix frozen in with the live and feed at least 2 times a day.

    8. In one to two weeks you will have a frozen brine shrimp eating madrin!

This system has worked for me 5 consecutive times to include a pair. This way is the best way I have found so far, unless of course you would like to purchase an ORA Mandrin lol.

  5. Aqua dome is correct. The feather is smaller than the picture, about baseball where it is pictured about softball size. when introduced intially a tank they go through a drastic adjustment phase for the first 2 to 3 weeks. During this phase they drop partial and full limbs and to adjust to the limited space in your tank, a large percentage perish not able to cope. Only when you start to see regrowth on the limbs will know know they are starting to stabilize. Sock filters can not be used because the feathers sift the detrius that returns to the tank. I stir my sump once every day or two. He has positioned himself directly under a return to capture and feed. The transition is not easy and they require very small food particles such as coral frenzy, then cylopeeze, and up as they acclimated over two months. Yes I have seen brine being taken into the mouth.

Frozen brine and dry nori are all I currently feed my tank. A lot of people have experience with Crinoids, few have been successful but the very few of us who have done the research and dare to test the waves have shown positive results. As always however I welcome all feed back in the general reef keeping topics I have already setup (listed above), this is a sale forum.

In short this guy would not be alive if he had not been eating for 4 months.

By the way Aqua Dome is in my top 2 stores of the whole area and I love it! And in no way would I ever knock a kick *** store like it!

Some of you have seen the footage of my feather star. It has a crab, lobster, and shrimp (last I checked). This 4 some is currently eating frozen brine (do your research that is extremely rare!) Then star alone sells for 40-80$ with no guarantee I bought 2 and only one survived. They normally only last 3wks at best with special care. I have had them for 4 months. The Crinoid Lobster is 20$ and the crab and shrimp can only be found as hitch hikers. I'm asking 100$ Firm no trades.

  7. I wonder if interceptor would kill them, that might be a solution. I always use coral rx pro at 1.5 strength, I know from experience that only at this strength can you knock off the big bugs. I go the full 10 minutes and have never lost a coral to dipping this way. Actually to be more specific at 1.5 strength barely knocks off the adult pests (nudi, aefw, planaria).

how much interceptor do you recommend for 290G? how many times do I dose?

  8. Yeah I barley had my pastel in for 4mins and its still suffering. I drew it up at 1.5 or more. I don't think 10mins would be good. Pretty sure its an Sphaeromatidae family of Isopods. Looks like the first guy in that group http://www.chucksadd.../hitchpods.html

So you had a pastel hammer react badly? When you says its still suffering do you mean its just closed up? I'm curious b/c I haven't had any problems with dipping my softies at that strength. I don't want to recommend that to people if it is going to harm the coral. Did you make it higher than 1.5?

yeah it was pretty strong, i think 12 drops in about a quart and half. the hammer is still half closed today.
