I need to make it over there soon. The tank has surprisingly really started shining since the heater incident. It will look much better with that bicolor in there!

  3. Don't tell me how to run my reef!

I dont think anyone is trying to tell you how to run your reef. You are posting to a forum with people who have a lot of experience in this hobby that are trying to help you from going astray. I am sorry if you feel people are trying to tell you how to run things, but there are things in this hobby that if done wrong can kill animals. Therefore, people really try to help ensure everything is set up properly and will not cause problems down the road.

  4. 20g tank with a couple of Clownfish and some inverts for sale on CL for $1,000. Maybe I should sell my tank to buy that 100ft yacht I've always wanted.

  5. Well, I confirmed again today that 55g tanks are tempered, apparently on ALL sides. I blew one a while back trying to drill the end panel. Today I imploded another one trying to drill the back. I'm just going to build the dang tank I want and be done with it.

Very sorry to hear that. For future reference, there is any easy trick using two polarized lenses to tell whether a pane of glass is tempered or not

  6. That Red Dragon acro is highly overrated.

I agree. I think it is an ok looking SPS at best. Certainly not worth the current market price.

  7. Any one have some soda lime they could spare?

That is the plan. BRS has some, but it is like 8lbs. I found a better deal, but for 37lbs. I don't think I need that much for my little 20g...

  8. Enjoying having time off to research. Recently read an article about the proper way to calibrate refractometers. Realized my refractometer was 2 ppt high

This is based on that as well. However, if you calibrate it using the 35ppt solution, it does not matter whether the refractometer was made for brine or saltwater

The main thrust is that calibrating a refractometer using RO or distilled water does not provide accurate calibration, instead use a fluid calibrated to 35ppt. You can buy it online or make it yourself following the recipe provided.
