  1. My Nanocube 12G Setup: - Nanocustom LED retrofit kit for Nanocube for lighting - replace stock return pump with MaxiJet 900 - Koralia Nano circulation pump - chamber 1 - filter pad and purigen - chamber 2 - chaeto refugium (The Nanocube backing is just black vinyl, so easy peeling to get light into the back) - thermometer and return pump Livestock/Corals: - pair of clownfish - purple lobster (from original owner and my son named him Cousteau so I can't remove him. ) - four different zoanthids colonies - orange florida ricordea - two heads frogspawn - small green bird's nest - three acroporas It sounds like a lot of stuff in a 12G tank but everything is fairly small so it's not overcrowding...yet. I'll see if I can upload a picture of the tank for you tomorrow when the lights are on. You're also welcome to drop by and check out the puny tank if you like. Just PM me if interested.
  2. I read a post by someone awhile back (on another site) that they placed theirs on a rock at an angle. He got great results from them splitting naturally that way. I have one that is mounted with a 45 degress slant when it had two mouths. Now (2 months later) it is looking it like it is ready to be completely separated. I don't know if the mounting angle helped or not but just thought it may be worth trying.
  3. I agree with Gonzobob about trying to purchase one used. The reason being most of the stock equipment you will toss away almost immediately. I have a Nanocube 12G that I bought on Craigslist back in Nov 2008 and took out the sponge and bioballs the previous owner had in there. The canopy stock light was not working and the previous owner said she went through two ballast replacement on it before giving up and getting a single satellite fixture. I had trouble keeping my clownfish in the tank with the open top setup so I replaced the light with LED retrofit from Nanocustoms. Love it! I get the intensity of metal halide without the heat issue. I also converted the middle chamber into a fuge. Most nano skimmer are not worth the trouble so I run mine skimmerless. No problem as long as you practice good husbandry. I'm keeping only a pair of clownfish and a variety of LPS/SPS. All in all, I'm pretty happy with the tank. If I had the option, I would probably have gone for a 24 gallon version. I wanted to get back into the hobby and keep my wife happy too so the small one works out.
  4. Thanks Chris. The zoas look awesome. Good chatting with you and good luck with the tank setup.
  5. Will PM you for a pick up time this weekend. Thanks! Alex
  6. Welcome Christian. I also have a Nano Cube but even smaller than yours. Mine is only a 12 gallon and aquascaping is always a challenge.
  7. Can you list what is left? I'm interested in the zoas if any are left.
  8. That's good to know because I see a lot of them. Thanks!
  9. So I see what looks to be spionid worms all over my sand bed and on some of my rocks. They usually have two clear tentacles coming out of the sand or rocks. They come out even more during feeding time. I believe they are spionid worms because they seems to form a tube out of sand and has the two clear tentacles extending from it. My questions is, do I need to worry about them?
  10. Interested in Orange/Pink Ric. PM sent.
  11. Thanks! Good to know there are lots of reefers around the area!
  12. Good to meet you last night Ryan and thanks for the dragon eyes, mushroom and monti cap frag. Will definitely get more from you once I make some room in the tank.
  13. Got some colt corals if you want some.
  14. Thanks zarathustra2 and mama for the chaeto offer. I saw a post this morning from muddybluewater and am going to meet him this afternoon to get a handful. I'm at 183/Duval and am glad to see there are a few of you close to me.
  15. Hi everyone. My name is Alex. After reading posts on this site for a few months now, I've decided to join. I wished I had found this site years ago when I first started my first SW tank. I am not a newbie to saltwater tank but am a little new to reef tank. I had a 70G SW tank with mainly fishes and some LPS back in 2001. After getting married and moving to a new house in 2004, I had to get rid of the tank. My wife thought it was too loud. Anyways, fast forward a few years and I was able to convince her to let me set up a smaller tank so I can show our son the joy of having a SW tank. I got a used Nano Cube 12G on craigslist last October. It came with one clownfish, a clam and colt corals and GSP that is taking over the tank. It only has a 40W PC light so I'm surprise the clam is still alive. The tank is doing well but the GSP and colt corals are taking over the tank. I'm planning on making some upgrades/changes to the tank and look forward to reading the posts on this site for some ideas and advice. Here are some of the changes coming soon: 1) Upgrade lighting 2) Convert one chamber in the back to a refugium (hopefully someone can provide some chaeto to start) 3) Trade or give away colt corals to fellow reefer to make room for some mushrooms and zoas Thanks for reading and I hope to meet some of you soon.
