is that seaside aquatic skimmer? if so, a buddy had one (i think SC7) with over flow after few days. i told him to bring water level down to 6" for skimmer chamber, helps out abit. now he tune a gate valve down to 2 or 3....no problem since...

its not a good switch, since u have inconsistent water lever in uptream chamber affects a next one to cause problem.

i would making sure water level for skimmer is right level, if level is high could cause skimmer skim too wet and over flow...

That's a good option to consider, but in his case all that herbie plumpings may not fit in overflow box....plus a return pipe.

I think ur next upgrade for mag 12 would be perfect. Regards ur plumping with elbows, stand height. ..ect. those r restriction factors unless u doing close loop setup.

And If u want no ph to b seen in dp, mag 18 is good choice...

its not neccessory to have extra drian as u think. in dulso drain, u might get salt build up in the vent hose after 3-4 months, when it does u ll notice a whisling sound, all u need is some ting to clean it all...back to action.

I BOUGHT IT NEW LAST SUMMER($115) FOR MY DIY CAL REACTOR, BUT THE 1048 WORKS JUST FINE. NO LONGER NEED IT.

u can buy phytoplanton at any lfs like aquatek, rca or aquadome or learn to culture ur-self.

yes, eventurely it ll fade and died, sadly. ur wet/dry filter has no neg affect on that, only chemical filter like carbon does. u must turn it off for a few hrs after feeding....

they r filter feeder and beuatiful piece of corals for sure, low light low flow and required phytoplanton feeds 2-3 times a week to keep it grow and thrive.

if u can keep up with maintenant like water change, keep ur N&P in check or having a skimmer rated 2-3 times as ur tank size, cause phytoplanton will increase nutrients (phosphate & nitrate) that leads to bacteria blooms (cyano) and algaes .

thats just my experience from the past...good luck
