Daisy82
Well, I just replaced my compact fluorescents (2 10k 96watt / 2 actinic blue) with HO T5's (2 18k 39 watt/ 2 actinic blue 39 watt) The white bulbs alternate with the blue. It should look good, right? Well, it doesn't. The colors look pretty washed out - flat and almost dead looking in comparison. Even my husband noticed the difference, and that's saying something . What do you guys think ?
Brooks
You could try adding a Fiji Purple (great for showing reds) and some Blue bulbs if you're going for a more blue look. Though, you should note that Actinic and blue aren't exactly the same thing.

Daisy82
Oh, really? I didn't know there was a difference. I didn't see any other blue bulb options at the LFS.
+Razor
I use geismen: 2 Aquablue + (white lights) and 2 Actinic + (blue lights) and I am really pleased with the color ballance in my tank. I believe the AB+ are in the 10K range and the A+ is ~450nm so it is a brighter bulb then the Pure Act or Fiji purple.
