razataz
Whats everyone's opinion on flow rate through a sump with a skimmer in it only? 1.5 x tank volume. are what. Let me know what you think it should be. Edited October 13, 2009 by razataz
Zarathustra2
Skimmer flow should be 4x or so tank volume or so. 1.5 is probably a bit slow. much more and your skimmer won't have a chance to really clean as much water as you are putting through the sump. I would try to get closish to your skimmer flow rate. Add a refugium and it gets a lot more complex.

razataz
are you talking 1.5 per hour? Yes as an example 4x 40g would be 160gph whats your take on it remember its skimmer only no refugium.
GKarshens
I would agree that about 4x is good. I have about 700gph going through mine and my total system volume is about 150 gallons.
