don duncan
a group of my palys have begun to close up. I mean really shrink. Others in the tank are doing fine. I had a hammer near them, but not touching. I moved it to another tank. Any suggestions? They are a really big colony and I don't want to loose them All water parameters check out fine. cmanning
Check thoroughly for any unusual parasite/pests....like asterina starfish or some odd looking snails. Another thing you might want to try is dipping them in Lugol's solution...follow the directions "For Dipping Corals". Last, check your fish and see if any are nipping on your coral. stoneroller
Pics? When I see that happen, the first thing to try is to simply blast them with a turkey baster or a small powerhead. If a lot of detritus blows out the colony may be very irritated. By the next day they should open up. Also check for white splotches or sloughing tissue. Sometimes, colonies just simply fade away; can seem to pinpoint the cause. HTH.
don duncan
will post some pics tomorrow. Hit them with a turkey baster, some detritis came off. some of them do seem to have some sloughing tissue. No parasites visible.
