discuspro
Okay, what is this Seriotopora dentritica that Aquatek has in their front display tanks for $95? I've looked up the name and can't find anything on it? It looks like a deep water, low flow coral or something. The polyps are closed and it looked like it was making slime. thedude
I looked for this species and couldn't find anything. Chances are, it's been incorrectly identified by the collector/wholesaler.
discuspro
That's what I thought also. I went back the next day and they aren't looking too happy.
thedude
Yeah if it's what I'm thinking it is, it's a filter feeding organism that has sort of a stony look. Almost impossible to keep in captivity but again, haven't seen the specimen at Aquatek.
xcreonx
I saw that one the other day. I believe it is actually a Stylaster or Distichopora, commonly called a Lace coral. It is in fact non-photosynthetic and a deep-water dweller. I had one as a hitchhiker on some tonga branch rock. It did okay for a while, then bleached and died almost instantly. I've read they shouldn't be exposed to air.
thedude
Yep Stylaster was the word I was looking for!
