MichaelR
Has anyone found any octopus on the Texas coast or in a live bait tank at a bait shop on the Texas coast? If so, could you tell what species and where it was found? I'm specifically looking for an O. Mercatoris. If I can get a lid fashioned for my aquarium I'd like to set up a small group of these guys going.
Timfish
B est bet is going to contact bait shops on the coast. As I understand it strips of foam around the rim will keep octopii from climbing out. They are also carnivorous so you only be able to keep one per tank. MichaelR
I figured I could go around and ask the bait shops, but the octopus I want likes to live in empty barnacles and shells, so I was thinking I could search beneath piers and rock jetties at low tide. As for the strips, that will not contain them. You will need something extremely abrasive like rough astroturf to deter them from crawling out. Even then it's not a guarantee, so I'm hoping to fashion a lid out of an acrylic sheet I have.
