Email Fix for RK Users

Recommended Posts

If you are experiencing Email failure notices when setting up this function on the DA WebServer 2 for RK units there may be an EASY FIX

Most likely this is due to the fact that the NET module does not support SSL. What is SSL? SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is a standard security technology for establishing an encrypted link between a server and a client—typically a web server (website) and a browser; or a mail server and a mail client SSL is used to protect sensitive information such as credit card numbers, social security numbers, and login credentials to being transmitted, and to keep an attacker from being able to intercept this data being sent between a browser and a web server or in our case between a email server (your current email provider) and a mail client (The RK Net module)

Since the RK Net module does NOT support SSL and most all Email servers, most likely including the one you are trying to use require the support of SSL, you will continue to get error messages when trying to TEST your email settings on the notification page of Net WebServer 2 .

The fix is to find a email server which does not demand the support of SSL. This should be OK since we are not trying to protect information as sensitive as credit card numbers, social security numbers and the likes. I found GMX mail server does not require SSL support like Gmail and most other mainstream email providers. So simply set up a GMX account and utilize it as the "from email address" on the notification page of the DA Net Webserver. Use - mail.gmx.com as the SMTP and the port setting 587. GMX emails can now be forwarded to your pre-established email provided such as Gmail etc... This also enables you to convert to text using the email / text protocals of your cell phone service.

TIPS: Make sure you have enabled the Net module on your head unit under Systems > Net Modules > Online Control > Yes

Also be sure to enable all tabs on the DA NetServer notifications page. Find your cell providers email to text link at http://www.emailtextmessages.com/. The correct info found here can be utilized under the "To" address on the DA NetServer to text your cell phone
