Winterwater
I have two tanks that I am running. For each tank I want to raise the lights to reach more surface area of the tank and reduce heat. The first tank is a 28 gallon nanocube which uses a metal hallide light which heats the tank to above 82 if I don't keep the timer just right. I am looking for cheap ideas or lasting ideas to how I can lift my lid to create more air flow between the water and light in order to reduce heat. I may also install fans but raising the lights is a more end all solution. The second tank is a Nuvo 16 gallon using a hang on back mount aqua sol. It's housed in a book case so there is wood over the tank. I was wondering if anyone knew of cheap d.i.y. supplies at a hardware store to hang an aqua sol safely and securely. I will also post my progress on what I end up doing cause tiny projects are fun.
Makena95GT
With my LED fixture I built a shelf above the tank with track shelving and hung the light from the bottom of the shelf. And with the track shelving I can move the shelf up or down and also move the lights
mFrame
There are a few builds here where they used metal conduit from home depot, attached to the back of the stand or the wall. They used a pipe bender to get a 90 degree angle bent on it and then hung the fixture from the top. Take a look at these threads: http://www.austinreefclub.com/topic/30379-led-mount http://www.austinreefclub.com/topic/27155-conduit-led-light-hangerfixture-for-biocube-need-bender/ http://www.austinreefclub.com/topic/26287-pipe-bender-for-12-metal-conduit http://www.austinreefclub.com/topic/23961-light-bar

Makena95GT
Depends on the apt and the location of the tank. Where mine is I'd rather fill in four small holes on the wall than risk hanging anything from my thin ceiling lamp And others just don't want to do that. Sometimes its subjective
Winterwater
I wouldn't mind hanging it from the wall but the ceiling is a bit risky. The hallide is heavy since its also the lid to the biocube. I want to hang my aqua sol in the bookcase from the ceiling. I lack a drill so i may have to screw something in by hand

Mind you I also weigh <100lbs with noodle arms so if I can do it.. anyone can
