Bpb
So I mounted these two frags touching on the same rock. I acquired them from different sources, both free, both looking like spongodes. The one on the right is clearly turning purple in the middle. Does spongodes do that. Or did I put two different things side by side
Timfish
Mmmmm could be. You might have two variants of the same species and you might also just be seeing differences in color influenced by intensity. For an example see my thread here: http://www.austinreefclub.com/topic/24054-the-difference-a-12-inch-makes/?hl=%2Btwo+%2Btone+%2Bbirdsnest
Bpb
Certainly a possibility on the light difference. The branching piece spent the bulk of its life under LEDs, while the rock type piece spent most it's life under metal halides. Been in my tank for 2 weeks now and are both now at the very top of the tank 3" under the water directly under radiums, but shaded by a powerhead right above them
