ceastman
Is silicone sealant safe for SW? I was thinking of augmenting the gaskets on my bulkheads (8 year old gaskets) with a bead of silicone or should I just get new gaskets? If new gaskets do any LFS carry them? Planeden
silicone is safe. but some you buy at the hardware stores have chemicals in them that are not (kitchen and bath versions have anti mildew stuff for instance). for a small job, just spend the extra bucks on the "aquarium sealant" if you don't want to do a lot of research or take a risk. for the second part, i'd get new gaskets. for the third part, i don't know where to get them. i imagine where ever they have bulkheads for sale will have gaskets to match. ceastman
ah good point about the anti mildew. thanks. ill probably end up doing both aquarium sealant and new gaskets. Rather spend a couple more bucks than have to mop the floor.
bige
Use plumbers silicon grease. That's what is usually used. Lowes or Home Depot has it. It comes in a really small grey container about the size of four stacked quarters.
