Nurse Nini
I just received my mated coral banded shrimp and they are acclimating. The question I have is, are they supposed to fight? One of them has torn off both of the front legs w/ pinchers of the other one, one at a time. Does this seem right? dontknow.gif Ok guys..is this normal? Should I call the place I ordered them from? Please let me know what you think!
caferacermike
Since no one else replied I figured I'd try. A friend of mine got a coral band and adored it. Then he tried some peppermints, killed and eaten. Next came some pistols, killed and eaten. An algae blennie, killed and eaten. I think you see a pattern. Tried another banded with it, killed and eaten. Then, and of course only then, did he look them up and read that they are extremely territorial and will kill other shrimp and shrimp like creatures. I'm still not sure how a blennie is shrimp like, but... Isn't it strange that in the lFS they always seem to have about 5 in a 20g but yet it never works in your home tank? Me thinks its sedatives. I hope it works out for you as they are beautiful animals. Especially that tiny blue dot against all that red and white.
Nurse Nini
Thanks for replying, I do appreciate it. Since no one had replied in the first couple of days I went ahead and sent them an email. I wouldn't think that a "mated pair" would kill each other if they really were "mated". So, hopefully they will refund my money or send me a real mated pair. It doesn't matter, they both died anyway crybaby2.gif
