rogerbn
Looking for about 100 pounds of rock. I can not even come close to be able to afford to buy all that. So one of the things I was looking at is maybe using some real porous limestone. I do not know if that would be acceptable or not. I have about 60 to 70 pounds of live rock now. If it's ok to use any one know were to find some? Or does any one have any good ideas what kinda of rock could be used instead?
SirReal63
Limestone will work but there is one problem that sometimes crops up...iron. It could have traces of iron in it and can leach into the system and that isn't a good thing. A very inexpensive option is marco rocks. I just took a 25# box of it and it is beautiful stuff. Very cheap and no worries of what is in it. Marcorocks.com
SoonerFan
And the limestone around here that is used in FW tanks and that sometimes gets used in SW tanks is not really that porous. I nice porous rock will weight much less than it looks like it should way. You would be better off to either use Marco Rocks or to just buy a little bit of rock from a time as people post it for sale from an established tank. Dena's Hubby
We have some limestone that came out of a tank in SA. It was in there for a couple years and then we had it in ours for a few months. It is now dried out in the garage. You are welcome to it.
