madsalt
I have a 30gal sump with my return pump, skimmer and media reactor pumps inside of it. Needless to say these heat up my water. Has anyone setup their return pump outside the sump and if so how has it worked? Thanks
Robb in Austin
What type of pumps are you running? To change to a external return you would either need to route the intake over the edge of the sump or drill it. If you get a large enough return, you could build a manifold to feed the reactor too. madsalt
its an AquaticLife 873gph pump, it has the ability to go inline. going over the side of the sump is what I was thinking and running my media reactor off a manifold is also what I was thinking. The reactor is a dual chamber from bulk reef supply and it doesn't need much flow to keep the gfo moving so I think I will have plenty from the return pump. Robb in Austin
Got to factor in head loss, prolly a hundred or so GPH at 4ft.
madsalt
I have pretty good return. So I went to put the pump in line and when I went to screw the fitting into the intake and the intake threads cracked so needless to say I could not make it inline. I need a new super quite pump anyway, and ideas. I did however re-plumb everything and now my media reactor is running off my return line, one less pump out of my sump
