Headless_donkey
Be sure to wash brand new filter sock BEFORE you put them in your tank. If you don't your skimmer will go crazy. It will overflow and dump water. It has happened to me and two other very reliable sources. The easiest way to wash the socks is in the washing machine or dishwasher with NO SOAP. Just thought I would pass this info on. Cleaning up gallons of water off your floor sucks. Trust me I know.
+Bmwaaron
Yea I have had this happen to me before... Im not sure what is on them when they are brand new to make them do this but it doesnt seem to harm the tank.
Entropy
The easiest solution to this is to get a sub par skimmer. Then you never have to worry about it. Of course it doesn't skim much either...
GKarshens
I did some painting in my living room on Sunday. I had the tank completely covered in plastic during the painting. Once I took it off about 10 min. later I could smell my skimmer. I looked in the stand and it was just starting to overflow. I guess the fumes set it off.
