Headless_donkey
Does water temperature affect protein skimmers? I am aware that the incoming air temp does. Does a skimmer become more efficient at a certain temp? Personal question: Why was my skimmer over flowing at night?

Personal question: Why was my skimmer over flowing at night? does it happen all the time at night, like every night? if it was a one night thing it could be something malfunctioned. water temperature holds more oxygen when cold, so im going to guess it might be more effective when cold? anything on those lines make sense to anyone else? Headless_donkey
That sounds plausible. The over flowing seems to have stopped after I added a fuge and fuge light. My I know the temp and pH are more stable now. So the skimmer seems to be more predictable. It also could have just been in the break-in period. thedude
I thought we determined it was the new filter sock? Has it happened since then?
Headless_donkey
It happened again. Friday night. It has stopped though. Fingers crossed. I really think it has something to do with the temp. Actually, I am not sure it has been the same thing every time. The collection bucket is now in the sump. Now it doesn't matter as much. I think I was just messing with it too much. I did lower the input flow some and it made it easier to adjust. The lazy few days it has been skimming like a champ! BTW let's take this opportunity to mention to the club brand new filter socks can make skimmers go crazy. It happened to me and Greenmako. It happened to me and Greenmako. when was the last time you seriously cleaned it? i know mine overflowed a lot and when i got frustrated i took it apart and found some stuff was half clogged in some of the tubes building pressure. basically more water came in than went out. once i cleaned it out etc it worked beautifully.
