hydor magnets copper plated?

I was using magnets from a busted hydor pump to hold frags against the glass. I just pulled the magnet off and noticed some paint flakes floating in the water. It turns out I had placed the external side of the magnet in the tank and the internal magnet on the outside of the tank. Where the paint flaked I noticed the magnet has a copperish colored plating. This could be why my german blue digi hasnt been to happy looking lately. any suggestions? I am planning a water change asap

There is a SeaChem product that is reported to be able to remove copper.

Of course by the age of this post I am guessing you figured something out or it didn't effect your tank.

I ws curious and had an extra set of magnets for a Hydor Korrallia and busted one open. There was no copper but the "keeper" plate and the magnet would rust quickly if the plastic housing was cracked. Could be wrong but I'm guessing this is what you saw.
