wa1tx
Anyone using black substrate? If so, what effect on tank temperature does it have? I woul presume there would be some effect based on black holding heat.
JamesL
I doubt that enough heat is generated in the tank, and then held by the substrate, to make any noticeable difference. I have seen smaller tanks use black substrate with no issues, but can't think of a large tank right off hand.
wa1tx
I would be putting it in a 125G. The tanks that I have seen with it I really like how the colors pop.
Mindflux
Matt (mhart032) ran black substrate in his Solana before I bought it. I almost bought some for myself, but I've read some of the black sand has iron(?) in it (which is evident when it gets picked up by your mag float) .. and then before you know it you've scratched your glass. Heck even the Tunze 6025 I got from Matt, the magnets had black sand stuck to them that I just brushed off. (But apparently the sand DOES have something magnetic in it.) So I just skipped that all together.
