wizardx322
i would do water changes to up it thats how i did to safely raise cuz you dont want to stress your tank out by raising too fast.
polarbear
is 1.020 to low
offroadodge
a lttl YES, i would shoot for 1.024-1.026. Make sure and calibratate your refractometer with 100% pure RODI water, or go to the store and get a bottle of distilled water. Sometime they are off. polarbear
ill have to get me one of those first. im old school right now. im using a hydrometer until i can get a refractometer
+Hydro
Just add salt to your freshwater top off. Don't rush bringing it up, 1.021 is acceptable but at the bottom.
Jessie
+1 hydro, top off with saltwater. It will bring your salinity gradually and cause less stress to fish and coral.
stoneroller
I just add salt to my sump over a few days. half to a full cup each day for a 72. In your 120 I think you could do more. Your swing arm could be way off too so maybe you can borrow a refractometer for a week.
Derek
Increasing when doing water changes is the best.
BBMarlin
+1 on adding salt to top off. Get a refractometer and calibrate it to 35 ppt using http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/store/aqua-craft-refractometer-calibration-fluid.html . "DI water will only get you close. This will make sure you are spot on : ) "
polarbear
I want to thank all of you for responding. I got me some salt today and mixed up a gallon to add for top offs. I'll test it in a couple of days to see if it's going up.
Robb in Austin
I'd see if someone down there has a refractometer you can borrow; heck, take a teaspoon of water to them and check it. I'd be wary of the hydrometer being accurate. I know they can be, I would just want to double check it before treating your tank.
