wizardx322
Just wondering what is a good way to get rid of nitrates other then water changes?
medi
Maintaining proper water conditions is the best way to prevent nitrates, but if you already have the problem then the best way to eleviate the situation is with frequent water changes. I would change 20%/week until you get the NO3 to a range you're comfortable with. Also, are you skimming? If not then I would suggest investing in a good protein skimmer and skim heavily. Lastly, watch how much, quantity and frequency, that you are feeding your fish. Too much food equal high NO3.

Timfish
Tim, is this the new 125 you're setting up? If it is I'd say your ecosystem is still maturing. I would just stick to water changes and examine how much you're feeding. Nitrates are not harmful to fish and many corals will tolerate and some ( Sarcophyton )are as indifferent as fish. I'm NOT saying nitrates are a good thing, based on what I've read and seen in my tanks I think a mature balanced ecosystem shouldn't have any but I wouldn't jump through hoops trying to get rid of it overnight. I got the phosphate part taken care of with a phosban reactor but got nothing right now for nitrates except a skimmer.
Will
try biopellets or carbon dosing if the above mentioned solutions do not work (with the exception of marks video as i have not seen it yet)
