He said not to use teflon tape but liquid teflon instead. He said if there is too much tape applied, which is usually about what you need to get a good seal, there can be possible cracking in the joints and threads. Teflon tape was invented to be more of a lubricant than a sealant when applied to threads on pipes. When used on PVC pipes, you do not get a 100% sealant.
