Things may be picked up from my home in South Austin (morning/lunch) or near UT Campus (afternoons).

  2. What happened to your house? I just had a dishwasher line bust and ruin my hardwood floor....sigh. Still trying to decide if I want to make a claim or not.

Previous owner did not water the property for many years and had the foundation fixed this Spring. We purchased late Summer and began irrigating 2x weekly (plus rain); the soil shifted and the house is no longer level from the new level of moisture since the it hadn't hadn't been watered for 2-3 years. Our floors are not water damaged or anything, they simply have air pockets here and there and some cupping in two rooms; none of which is related to the foundation.

    Tank still available?

Yes, it certainly is. A couple interested parties have mentioned they may be able to come to Austin to pick it up during Thanksgiving weekend, but nothing solid yet and no deposit left. If you'd like to come by and see it in person contact my phone number or PM me.

If the tank is not sold in the near future it will move to River City Aquatics and have a slightly higher price.

  3. I have been self employed doing tile and wood for the past 16 years. If you are going to be putting back either, I would be willing to talk about some kind of deal for your setup. Let me know if interested.

Luckily all our repairs (including some floor replacement) will be under warranty. Thanks, though - if you were closer I'd sincerely consider you for tiling further down the road!

  4. Arg... This is pretty much the exact tank I want in dimension, rimless, and the overflow style. Just hold on to it for a year and I'm game.

I certainly hope that by one year from now, I'd finally be in a position to use it :) We have eventual floor repairs and foundation repairs that will both require the tank to move into another room, or possibly out of the house entirely. The thought of moving it multiple times is quite daunting, and I'd rather just buy another tank when I'm finally in a position to set one up. I can't stand the idea of cracking or chipping it while simply moving it around for the repairs to take place.

    I am interested, PM sent.

    Thanks, I emailed you.

  5. Thanks Tim. I'm beyond sad to see it go. Selling my fish will be way worse, though bye.gif

how tall is the stand? how do you have the external overflow configured?

The stand is 36" tall, so before considering the adjustable feet the top of the glass is 60" off the ground.

The external overflow box has 3x 1.5" drains through it's bottom, and 2x 1" returns through it as well.

I was planning to plug the return holes and use a single Sea Swirl; or use the 1" holes to a refugium eventually.

  6. GONE GONE GONE

So the unthinkable has happened, and due to an unfortunate series of events I was never able to set up my aquarium and will not be setting it up in the foreseeable future. The aquarium and stand are brand new, and were custom produced for me to my exact specifications in late Summer / early Fall this year. The tank has never seen water, and is completely free of damage - nothing is wrong with it, I can just no longer accomodate it. Please understand that I'm taking a small loss on the tank, and the price is not marked up at all. The only reason I'm not putting the tank in storage is because I could really use the money now, and really have no idea how long it'll be before I set up an aquarium again. Here is the build thread I had started, but it obviously didn't really go anywhere: http://www.austinreefclub.com/topic/22992-creatures-in-a-black-lagoon-my-final-tank-upgrade/'>http://www.austinree...l-tank-upgrade/

    Details on the tank:
    - 60x30x24"
    - external overflow box centered on the back
    - internal portion of overflow ~24x3x5"
    - rimless & trimless
    - 3/4" glass walls
    - PVC bottom
    - powdercoated metal stand with adjustable feet

  7. Update on why I'm not updating: the foundation repair is being dragged out by the company responsible, until they claim responsibility and uphold their warranty I will not have any definitive timeline. This has been going on for long enough now that I am pretty reluctant to say if/when I'll be able to set it up this year. Fingers crossed that this doesn't turn into a legal battle, further delaying the happiness of my spouse & my fish, but it really looks like that's where it's headed. I hope that no members have to deal with Level Best for their own home crab.gif

As soon as I'm able, this thing will get up and running.

  8. awesome thread. does planet aquarium have a website? tried to google it.

I wish they had a site or Facebook page, but I couldn't find anything about them beyond threads on Reef Central regarding their tanks. I was able to eventually source an email and phone number for them, but it's apparently only for wholesale inquiries, and they refer you to an LFS in your area. RCA is who I ordered mine through, I'd suggest contacting them to get a quote or more details - everyone at the shop seems pretty pleased with the outcome!

That's a very nice tank Randy. I can't wait to see it setup.

Thanks - I'm dying to see it come to life as well! We're still hashing things out with both a foundation warranty repair, and a warranty repair to our hardwood floor. I really can't fill it up and get it going until both of those are taken care of, it's really torturous for this thing to be sitting here empty for so long!

What are te advantages of a metal stand vs a wood stand? I've always been used to wood stands when I was in the hobby years ago

I don't care much for the styles of aquarium furniture / cabinetry offered by the industry and I'm way too picky to have a company custom produce a stand for me. Going with a metal stand allows me the luxury of setting the tank up now, and finishing the exterior later! A wood stand, even only a structural frame, would be quite a bit heavier than this is. I plan to have a local builder produce an exterior for the stand in the near future, which will attach via clips or magnets. The front and end panels will be completely removable, so I'll still have full access to get in there when necessary.

  9. The tank is finally home, which was no easy task. Jake and Francis brought it down from RCA, but I have NO IDEA how the heck they got the entire crate with tank & stand lifted up into the pickup. They disassembled the crate on the truck & it took four of us to get it into the house. There was only about 60 seconds of actual lifting involved, and even with all my years of experience in moving / delivering / installing tanks I can say this weighed nearly twice what I was expecting sick.png

So now step one is complete, the tank sits in it's room awaiting some vinyl to cover the back. Once that's done I can move it back against the wall to it's final resting place. Please forgive all the sweat & handprints on the glass, it was unavoidable haha.

  10. In the little time that I had it running, it was clear that it works in making a wave, but falls short of variations in flow or direction. I enjoy the semi randomness that comes from the Vortechs, also the Large Torch that was directly behind the wavebox got almost no flow, whereas with the vortech it gets a nice mave motion from the water around the pump. As a few said, I think its up to your preference and what you want your tank to look like. I personally will stick with Vortech.

For what it's worth, they serve different purposes. Vortech units are powerheads with a wave pulse function. Wavebox units are wave pumps, with their sole purpose being to create & maintain a wave.

This comes up quite frequently on the Tunze RC subforum, and both Roger and regular users are quick to point out that you do not use the Wavebox by itself - as it is a wave device, not a flow device. If you can afford the space of both pumps and a wavebox in your tank, it's unbeatable. If you cannot, then just settle for Vortechs or Stream pumps, even if you must set them to pulse as you see fit.

  11. These guys came on my liverock and have sprouted a couple of new 'heads'. The small one on the right is new. There is another new one that is in a location where a shot is not possible. I'm happy they are spawning new growth.

LOVE these things. I used to have them many years ago / many tanks ago. They came on my liverock as well, and I had two slightly different varieties - three or four colonies total. It took many months for them to really polyp out and be full, but I took to feeding them Hikari and PE Mysis and they really began to multiply.

  12. So it took about a month between the deposit being made to the final product being ready for pick-up. I had a few hiccups in my schedule, so I held off a couple weeks before having it's delivery date scheduled. After much anticipation, it has arrived!

Well, at least it has arrived at River City Aquatics. I'll have it home plenty soon, though! Really excited, it looks GREAT.
