  1. Stop. Taking. Vacations.
A couple of kids should fix that right up for you.  Live a boring existence tied to your home and tank like the rest of us.

I don’t know which scenario is more desirable to be honest
  2. I guess I have a vacation curse, because every time I take a vacation some disaster befalls my tank. Last year there was a power outage while I was gone and following that I lost several thousand in SPS and my coral health never really rebounded to what it was pre-trip. This year an anemone somehow found its way out of its cage and into a powerhead within days of me leaving.

This anemone was in a cage for months and somehow got out within a couple days of me leaving the country? Really?! I leave town for work every other week and something like this happens when my wife and I are on the other side of the world?! [emoji36]Luckily an extremely good friend and reliable hobbyist in my neighborhood was available to perform an emergency water change and removed some dead fish. From my count I only have 3 fish left in the tank and I used to have over 20.

I returned home last night and was too tired to perform water tests, but without my grazing fish anymore, ulva exploded. I tore out what was growing near the surface of the tank and it was pretty substantial. Probably going to tear everything out and re-aquascape while I’m essentially fishless. [emoji58]

  3. Hate to hear that!  How do you know when your CO2 is going to run out?  Does the pressure decrease gradually or die all at once like propane?

The regulator gauge SHOULD show the pressure. But my cheap Milwaukee brand gauge must be broken because it was reading 500 psi a week ago. Time to upgrade!!
  4. Anemone is now in the tank. Short video of its first day. 1 cycle of the sea swirl blowing over the top of it. If it does not move by tomorrow I will take it off the glass bowl and leave it there on the rock.

I have a feeling the mag will want to move somewhere with more flow over time. It’ll also probably climb up the rock work when it starts looking for more flow.
  5. I haven’t posted in a while, it’s hard to get excited about the hobby when you’ve been struggling with mysterious coral deaths for nearly a year with no major culprit or solution. Yesterday though I may have *possibly* found a smoking fun. I was performing a water change and noticed the magnet holding my PH was slipping a bit. Pulled it off and noticed my hand was covered in black and there were some bumps on the magnet b0d95e0414f7125bb5260526ff24d095.jpg

Needless to say I tossed the magnet immediately, changed 20 gallons, and put new carbon in the reactor. Really really hoping this has been the cause of my most recent coral struggles.

  6. It overwhelms the camera sensors! I have to turn exposure way down. It glows bright enough to cast its own shadows as a light source under LEDs.

Dang! That thing really is insanely bright. Where did it come from?
  7. Its a torch. Its pretty big now. Still only has 2 heads. Went from marble size to almost hardball size in 2 months. I got it to see if they would do ok before I got a fancy colored one. I dont have a nem yet. Maybe someday Ill get lucky.

I’ve been looking for magnificas, I was even looking for some in LA this week and could only find a boring one at a LFS. Definitely been a shortage lately...

  8. -edit just realized i was replying to a very old portion of this therad-
Have you found an air pimp that has an inlet that you could connect to an outside airline?
I was going to experiment with micro bubbles, but wanted to run outside air as my house always has high CO2. I already did the hard part and ran 1/2 pex tubing though a few walls to get an outside line into my stand for my skimmer. Seems like I could hack something together with a USB charger and this pump:

I stopped pumping outside air into my tank a while ago. I would smell weird chemical smells from time to time and it didn’t seem to help the pH drop that much. I decided it wasn’t worth the risk in case someone was spraying pesticides around my neighborhood and it getting sucked into the tank. I might install a CO2 scrubber on my protein skimmer down the road.

  9. Haha yeah, there hasn't been much to share since my tank has been slowly recovering from the mystery issues that started when I was on vacation last June. Things are still recovering, but randomly see SPS issues from time to time. I'm running Fluco again since GHA popped back up. I'm currently at one month of treatment with no protein skimmer and no carbon, which could be the cause of any current struggles. I'm trying to soldier on as long as I can to avoid the GHA from springing back as quickly as it did last time.

  10. Not really sure. I tested and nothing seemed out of wack. I glued and cut several Frags which would usually stop it but they all kept rtn’ing. After I couldn’t figure anything out I added a fresh bag of carbon on top of my return and the remaining Frags appear to have stopped. Looks like I’ve saved about 4.5 Frags so I’ll be able to regrow. Just weird since nothing else was affected. Darn SPS

Dude that strain is the strangest. Yours came from Ty right? Mine was doing well and then randomly RTN’d too. Seems like it has happened to everyone to have a piece of it. [emoji848]
