  1. Actually Raymond was the 2nd to confirm purchase, so the two frags I will be making are sold. Next will be the Tate's and Cmanning. I will post the order of availability later. Like I said I can help ppl obtain this piece from another source if they can't wait., it'll just be more expensive and won't be local.

  2. Ok I replied to all PM's in regards to size and pricing. So far I have one confirmed buyer Mdavis and I can still make one more frag if sombody wants it. My colony is large enough that I can supply everyone who wants it in due time. After I make these frags I think I can push out an inch every other month, lots of new growth on the mother. I just don't want to put too much stress on her. Please whoever owants the 2nd piece make your decision today, so that I can frag everything tomorrow. For those who can't wait for the bi-monthly availability you can contact exoticfrags.us or yourreef.com. They also sell the IF. If worse comes to worse and you just got to have it I can contact Steve Tyree for you, but he usually likes to sell more tan one frag at a time. Just trying to help everybody out.

  3. Well in the case of keeping SPS, when you hit the 5+ year mark your tank is going to experience OTS...Old Tank Syndrome. Basically your system will have difficulty keeping up with the progression of your corals. Corals will start to consume Ca, Alk, Mg, trace elements on a massive scale. Way pass what the typical reefer is willing to invest in finacially. Over crowding ensues, acros start to actually breach the waters surface and chemical warfare takes out weaker growing corals. SPS are the most invasive corals a hobbyist can keep if you have a thriving system. They literally build reefs in nature! Also at the 5 year marker you have to deal with equipment failures and debating whetther to continue with size tank you have, replacing all the critical hardware, sell off alot of your livestock or just

upgrade. IME 400 watters will not crash your tank, it's a combination of factors that cause senior systems to fail. Basically they can no longer sustain themselves with the current equipment, maintenance routines, size constarints etc. But back to what this post really originated for, if you do decide to switch over to 250's (which I don't think you should do if you if running 400's) go with a double ended 250 they put off way more PAR than mogul 250's. Check Sanjay's results for more info.

  4. Well the cool thing about Monti caps is when you place them at the bottom of the tank they tend grow in a cup formation, taking up less space. Keep in mind that this under high powered lighting. With only 2 bulbs you may want consider placing your specimen atleast midway in the tank. What is the wattage of your bulbs? Remeber when I say keeping Monti's under moderate care they will survive in less extreme lighting environments given that all other requirements for keeping SPS are met.

  5. You can keep Monti's under T5 lighting it's just a matter of what species are appropriate for your size tank. If you want to maximize the diversity of coral in your tank it may better to chose an encrusting species like the "Superman" M. Danae or M. Undata. They are very colorful and require moderate care. The Monti caps which grow in a plating formation would limit the use of your available space as they would block the light of surrounding corals once they begin to grow.

  6. Hawkins Echinata is a great example of mislabeling a species. It is also a Turaki. You can always tell A. Turaki do to the flor di lis shaped tips extending from the branches. The only recognized Echinatas that I know of in this hobby are the Tyree Ice/Fire, the Aussie Blue Boa, and the orginator of the Echinata craze the Tubs Echinata. I just acquired a piece straight from Tubs and can't wait till it comes in!

  7. The first one is definately either A. Formosa or A. Nasuta. Can't really tell from the pic but if it's growing in a stag like formation with small stubby polyp extension I would go with Formosa. The second appears to be A. Turaki. Alot of times those get mislabeled as A. Echinata, but there are very few TRUE Echinatas circulating around in this hobby. If you were looking for designer names for those corals post what they were sold as and I'll tell you yah or nah.

  8. Acropora Turaki is a highly sensitive species. Chances are if it began to STN that soon in your tank it may not survive. I lost my mini colony not even 48 hours after introuducing it to my tank. Even after fragging it up into smaller colonies, the necrosis started right back up. Dale warns that if it is exposed to air for evevn brief amounts of time you can kiss it goodbye. So if you are going to cut it do so under water, same goes for gluing it. As far as dipping it, I wouldn't as it is already stressed from the change in environment. Just cut into the healthy tissue and glue it firmly to an area of low flow in your tank. Sorry to hear this Don. I feel your pain and good luck.

  9. Keep the light cycle to a minimum for now. I say 3 hours a day should be sufficenct. Stay up to par on your water changes and keep the collection cup on your skimmer pretty clean so that it operates efficiently.I would probably wait till you at least test positive for nitrates before you add any macro algae. Good luck!

  10. Do you know if ORA is still cultivating this piece for sale or is it one that has been discontinued and is only available through private hobbyists? ORA lost alot of their livestock in a hurricane a few years back, but next time we do an order at RCA I will check and see for you.

  11. If his mouth is large enough to swallow whole piesces of krill, definatelly keep him on the krill. Mysis is very high in protien and excellent for most fish, but predators require larger intakes of it which mysis can not provide.

  12. I tried to send you a PM, but the site won't allow me to. Im very interested, how can I get ahold of you? My number is 832-439-0004. If you can send me a PM with your contact info or just reply in this post. Thanks,

    Wes

  13. I have a single green with purple rim montipora cap for sale. Coral is approximately 4"x3" and mounted on a thick disk for support. This monti has excellent polyp extension and brilliant green coloration. I need the room for my other corals so $30 takes it. I don't have a camera, but if I can get a hold of one in time I'll snap some pics.

  14. That is not Cyano. I have seen many growth formations of Cyano...even some that grows from the surface of the water and descends vertically, but for the most part it encoats solid surfaces as a thin film layer.
