  1. There's a lot of white sponge growing in my tank, and pieces break off from time to time. It's kinda unusual to see anything (healthy ; ) in a tank that's truly white. You can see the sponge wrapping out from under the bottom of the rock pictured, with a close-up picture of one side. I've got two or three pieces right now. If you're interested in trading for a piece, drop me a PM.

  2. My GSP's attempts at world domination continue... I have eight frags of various sizes - one rather large piece (4-5" in diameter), four medium and three small (think golf ball). The picture is of the parent colony. Trades are encouraged (no more 'shrooms or kenya tree, please, with a preference for SPS frags). Asking $25/$10/$5 for L/M/S.

  3. I have a rock with about 10 mushrooms of various sizes on it, ranging from tiny little baby to silver dollar. These shrooms have done well at all levels in my tank, with more of the light blue highlights when kept higher up, and more magenta when kept lower down. Trades are encouraged (no 'shrooms or kenya tree, please, with a preference for SPS frags). Asking $30.

  4. I have two frag plugs of Radioactive Dragon Eyes with 15-20 polyps, and one plug of Eye of Ra with 8 polyps. Pictures are of the parent colonies. Trades are encouraged (no 'shrooms or kenya tree, please, with a preference for SPS frags). Asking $20 each.

  5. I've got a baby ric that popped free of its parent the other day. It's about the size of a nickel right now (upper left in the picture) and is mounted to its own rock. NOTE: The image has been photoshopped to better represent its actual colors - my poor camera apparently has white-balance issues. Asking $10, trades encouraged.

  6. I had a tank in college that had three of them hitch in. They were literally the size of my pinkie nail when I found them. They ended up between 4 and 6 inches in diameter and could go through coralline algae like there was no tomorrow.

  7. Hey, there!

I recently got a chance to upgrade my lighting, so it's time to sell off the old one. It's a Tek Light 46 (Sunlight Supply), and it's about 2-1/2 years old. Bulbs are included, all of which were bought between Jan and Mar of this year. It's missing the acrylic splash guard, which the original owner found extraneous for some reason, but I've had it about 8" above the water for two years without any trouble. Full specs are as follows:

    48" x 16" x 2-1/2"

2 power cords and switches control the 4 inner bulbs and 2 outer bulbs independently

    1 Giesemann Aquablue+

    1 Giesemann Pure Actinic

    1 Current actinic

    1 Current 10k

    1 Power-Glo

    1 Marine-Glo

This fixture sells new on Marine Depot for more than $400 without the $120-$150 worth of bulbs needed. Asking $200.

  8. Is it important to have a perfectly round hole, or will having a mostly round hole do the trick? You can buy a used jig saw from a pawn shop for less than what you'd pay for a new 4" hole saw. With a little patience, the jig saw will give you a hole that's mostly round.

  9. Yes, I've got it running in 6" of water, per a phone call with PM when I first got the skimmer.

I would agree with Paul, adjust the height of your skimmer. By the way do you know if there is a "recommended height" per the manufacture?
  10. I've got a PM Red Line 175 skimmer on a 140-gal mixed reef with a medium bioload. The skimmer used to pull about 1" of dark green skimmate every three days or so. However, I started dosing vodka about two weeks ago, and over the last week, the skimmer's gone nuts. No matter how I seem to adjust it, the skimmer runs ultra-wet and fills the collection cup with very lightly-tinted water in just a few hours. If I adjust the bubble column all the way down to the bottom of the skimmer neck, it will still fill the cup with mostly-clear water within six hours or so.

Anybody have suggestions as to what's going on and how to get the skimmer to run drier?

  11. Hey, there!

I had a chance recently to upgrade skimmers, so it's time to sell the old one. It's an RS135 with a Sedra 5000 pump, and it's roughly two years old. It still works great - I gave it a nice long vinegar bath, and it's ready for a new home.

    Asking $175

  12. I've got some, but I like the look of having a few green marble-looking things in the tank. ; ) Whenever they get too numerous, I just carefully cull them by hand. If you're really looking to eliminate them, yes, an emerald crab or two will help, plus the usual nitrate/phosphate reduction techniques. I've also read of folks on RC who've had rabbits and foxfaces who would eat bubble algae.

    Hope that helps!
