  1. its still alive!? ?!

    really!??

    whoa!!

how big are the pieces.>?! do you have a few pics?

It's likely to be dormant right now since the bacteria haven't had fish poo to munch on for the last year, but it should bounce back pretty quickly.

I've got pieces in a variety of sizes, but no pics. I'll see about getting some posted in the next day or two if you're really jonesing for images.

  2. I have somewhere between 50 and 75 lbs of live rock that have been cooking in a dark ice chest for almost a year now. I meant for it to form the foundation of a predator tank that never got up and running, and I need to get it out of my fish room. Asking $2/lb.

  3. After sitting on the floor of my fish room for nine months, I'm throwing in the towel and acknowledging the fact that I simply don't have time to set up the predator tank that I wanted.

This is a re-post of one I made last month, with lowered prices on everything.

The main tank is a 110-gal aquarium. This used to be one of Jake's sumps at RCA, so it has a 2" bulkhead in one end that I thought would be very useful during water changes. Asking $75

The skimmer is an Aqua-C EV 240 with a Mag18 pump. There's a cosmetic crack in the collection cup, but it doesn't leak. This skimmer retails new for north of $500. Asking $150

  5. So here's mine: I have two beautiful onyx clowns that I bought a couple of years ago. They were too small to eat pellets when I got them, they were so small. They've grown up into a gorgeous pair that, despite my best efforts, have NO idea what that anemone on the other side of the tank is for. My green BTA has reached sizes of 10-12" inches across before splitting, and I now have not one, but TWO excellent anemones in my tank after the last split. The dumb clowns have never gone anywhere near them. I've tried taping pictures of hosting clowns to the sides of the tank. I've even tried playing YouTube videos of nesting clowns on the laptop sitting in front of the tank. No luck. However, I've read others' stories of teaching their clowns by introducing a new clownfish to the system that does know how to host. Theoretically, by chasing the new guy out of the anemone, the veterans finally figure out what that pretty wavy thingy is for. Last week, I caved and bought a little orange ocellaris from RCA who was hosting in one of their BTAs. The little fellow is maybe half the size of my smaller onyx. I figure, worst case, I net the little guy from whatever corner of the tank he's been banished to and return him to RCA. Best case, because he's the smallest of the three, he gets adopted into the family after teaching the onyx the anemone what-for, and I have a trio of ocellaris instead of a pair. Nope - the two onyx haven't even noticed the existence of the new guy, as far as I can tell, despite the orange clown swimming about in the open water during feeding time.

    Stupid clowns...

  6. Advanced Aquarist has a cool article out that shows a direct, head-to-head analysis of the flow rates from a variety of powerheads/pumps, including Aqeon, Hydor, Eco-Tech and Tunze. If the scientific minutia bores you , scroll down almost 2/3 of the way through the article to the bar charts showing advertised vs. measured flow rates.

Of particular interest is the large difference between Tunze's advertised vs. actual numbers (which, per the article's addendum, have been since confirmed by Tunze's own tests in response to the article).

  7. I'm looking to buy a few heads of teal trumpets. I lost mine a couple of months back when my a/c went out and created temp issues in the tank that lead to an infrection. Anybody have a colony that needs trimming?

  8. I just harvested what seems like a metric ton of caulerpa from my tank. Free handfuls to any and all (although quid pro quo trades would never be refused!). I've got both racemosa and nummelaria available.

  9. I've used it some, and I've been pleasantly surprised and impressed. Takes a little while to get used to the controls, but there are lots of tutorials and help docs. I designed a tank stand with it as well (although I've yet to have time to actually build the sucker!).

  10. UPDATED 7/12 - I took the Roscoe's and insignis to RCA today. The Red Planet is still available if anyone's interested.

    UPDATED 7/8 - new prices

UPDATED 8pm - added Red Planet frag.

I've grown out a couple of frags that came my way via trade, and I'm ready to find new homes for them. The source didn't know their identities, so the names here are my best guess, based on comparison to other corals in my tank. I make no guarantees on the accuracy of the identifications! The names are my best guess, good-faith effort.

The first one looks like my Roscoe's Blue. It's about 3" tall, very well encrusted with multiple branches. $50 $40

    post-827-0-21111300-1309895295_thumb.jpg

The other one looks like my green and blue A. insignis. It's about 5" tall and almost as wide from branch to branch. $65 $50

    post-827-0-10645700-1309895312_thumb.jpg

This one I'm certain of - it's a crumb of Red Planet that broke off my colony awhile back and has now completely encrusted the frag plug. That's it back behind the green and blue insignis. Unfortunately, the plug is so far back from the front glass, that's the best pic I can get. $15

As always, I'm open to trading for other coral. When in doubt, make me an offer!
