  1. From what I've read the entire class of matting Paly's contain palytoxin. By the looks these are either Palythoa tuberculosa, or Palythoa caesia, but no way to be certain. In any case, these may be extremely toxic. I didn't think anybody kept the matting type because of their toxicity.

Well I guess I'll have to take extra care when around this coral? I as just reading an article about the case where a person had a Zoanthid colony responsible for a severe respiratory reaction. They tried to boil the rock with the polyps on it. They were collected from a home aquarium in 2008. They look a lot like my teal polyps. Guess this shows just how careful you need to be around some corals.

  2. Where have you been reading this?

  3. What do you guys think about possibily just leaving the door open to the storage area? It opens up to my pantry and laundry area so which also has a door and vent fan in the ceiling to the outside. I could set up a little fan to circulate the air in the room. Thats kind of what I do now with the refugium being in there. I just leave the door open for a little while.

  4. So this month is going to be the time that I try to get my tank into the wall like I have always wanted. I moved into my new house about a year ago and have been wanting to place my current 90 gallon RR tank into the wall ever since we moved in. When looking for the house I was picky to find a place where I could insert the tank and have a room behind it to access the tank. Well our house is a 2 story and there is a room under the stairs that can be used for storage. It has a full door on it and is big enough to house everything in. The wall on the other side is in the living room and is where the tank is currently up against right now. My paln is to frame the tank once its in there and add a granite ledge to act as a bar which matches the granite in the kicthen. My refugium is currently in the room under the stairs so that the living room is not noisey from the pumps and skimmer. Me and my brother drilled the holes through the wall to run the drain and return line through.

The problem that I am thinking I will have is with heat and humidity (which might cause mildew). Im not running a chiller and am running T5 HO lights at this time and have no problem with heat. Does anyone here have any experence in having a tank in the wall or know of someone who has one? Ive talked to funcky reefer who has recently installed his tank into the wall and he is worried about the same things with the heat and humidity. Below is a picture of what the room looks like now with just the refugium in it. I was thinking that I might have to add a exhaust fan of some knid but am not sure. Please help if you can. Thanks.

  5. Im looking for those of you who use T5's on your tanks and keep SPS. I just bought a meridiana sps coral and a lime green acro and was wondering where they should be placed in the tank. I'm running 7 T5's with one VHO actinic. I have a couple of unknown SPS corals growing in the tank now. They a unknown since they started growing from what ever was left on the rock when I got the rocks from another person.

  6. So Im making RO/DI water and I went out to check on the unit and noticed that the water pressure on the gage is reading 85 psi. It's never gotten over 70 psi so i am worried that it might spring a leak because of all of the pressure. Should I be worried? I am not running a boosting pump either.

  7. Thanks. I started off with the 1/3 of the dose. When I called them they told me the same thing. It also has it on the directions. I forgot to add this to the original post so here it is. I can edit my original post.

    What is wate away:

Waste-Away beneficial bacteria will naturally dissolve the sludge and dirt that accumulates in an aquarium and prevent the build-up of debris when used on a regular basis making maintenance easier and quicker.

Waste-Away is fast acting and specially formulated to remove aquarium gunk, unclog coral beds, and keep filter pads freely flowing longer. This results in better water flow, more oxygen and a healthier aquarium environment.

Waste-Away should be used on a regular (weekly) basis to keep sludge from accumulating which can negatively affect fish and corals.

  8. So I finally purchased Dr. Tim’s Waste Away product after talking to Mark about it. Mark suggested the product so I decided to give it a try. I did some research on the product and watched some videos of Dr. Tim talking about his products and how they are developed. I have been having an algae problem in my tank for awhile. Even though all of my water parameters are in good shape I still continue to have the problem. I have used the product Micro Bacter 7 with some results but the algae never really went away.

Over the next couple of months I will be adding photos and explanations as to what I see happening in my system. I have attached some starter pictures so you can see where I am starting at and will continue to upload more as the time progresses. If you have any questions as to what I’m doing please ask. Also, if you have any suggestions or comments please post them. The more input the better.

My system consists of a 90 gallon display tank with a 25 to 30 gallon refugium. I’m running 8 T5 HO lights along with one VHO and 2 stunner strips for moon lighting. I have a Reef Octopus NWB 150 Needle Wheel Protein Skimmer and a BRS dual reactor running GFO and carbon. My bio load is made up of a fox face, 2 clowns, a scooter blenny, pajama cardinal, chromis, cleaner shrimp and a pistol shrimp.

    Here are the starter pictures:

  9. So I was wondering if my 14 gallon biocube would make a good quarantine tank for any new fish that I buy? Right now it has sand and live rock rubble along with some macro algae, GSP and Kenya tree.

    What do you guys think?

  10. Ya. I'm thinking about getting a new one that is already large since these just split and not grow bigger. I want a home for my 2 clowns. They host in my GSP now but really want them to host in a GBTA.
