    FYI to all people skeptical about online retailers and their guarantees, I lost my recent Coral purchase from Live Aquaria to RTN, they offered help and suggestions when it happened, and issued the credit immediatly. My Achilles still hasn't accepted any food but is still alive, they extended his warranty by 2 additional weeks!

      Online credit is only good if you don't have to make a min purcase in order to replace what died. After spending $300 to get a $25 fish that lived, I now only buy fish that I can see swimming, healty and eating. YMMV

      Any ph reading over 8.5 is usually a measurement error so I agree that the probe is suspect.

      A multi angle attack works much better when fighting this stuff as you may know. Have you tried dripping kalk and using lathium chloride? Get both of these online then kill the lights for 3 day's, You should start seeing less and less of the stuff after that. Phosphates are thought to play a role with this stuff so you may have some leaching from your LR, the LC will definately help bind phosphates so it can get skimmed out, it will also do the same with the phosphates released by the din...

    is it just me or is Hanna's Calcium Checker no bueno? My experience with it (3-4 tests) has been sub par, I don't think I'll use it any more. What a waste.

      I'll buy it from ya if you would like to get rid of it. To be fair, there is aproblem with the syringes that came with the kit's, I believe hanna has announced that. Also you must use ro/di water with zero tds and the ro/di water can't have a high ca content or that can also affect the reading's.

      To cover all of the basic's I really would get the ca/alk/mg and sg verified with known good test kit's and a calibrate refractometer.

      If the mg is low, usually you have issues keeping ca and alk up.

      I had a bad experience with a hydrometer when I first started in the hobby and I just don't trust them. I would really make sure your salinity is ok. Have someone with a refractometer sheck it or just have a lfs check it.

      You have verified salinity with a refractometer. Also make sure the refractometer is still calibrated?
