  2. The other thing to keep in mind is that some of the black sands such as "black beauty" and "onyx" seem to release phosphates over time, something you defiantly don't want in a reef tank. The only black sand we have found the doesn't release phosphate is the Tahitian Moon Sand. We have the TMS in our little nano cube and for the most part I love it. It does not have the same buffering ability as the aragonite sands, but I like the look of it and it doesn't seem to have the "dirty" look that the white sands can have over time. Of course the "dirty" look is very natural, just not what we were looking for in our front tank. As far as our Frontosa tank, it is a 200 gallon with only 4X96W on it. It is a very dark tank, but that is the look we were going for. The black sand does absorb some of the light, but with "reef" lighting and lots of live rock near the surface I don't think a reef tank will appear any darker than a white sand tank.
  3. plenty of zoos and xenia. No sun coral at the moment.
  4. HOLY SMOKES We just unpacked the first order and all I can say is WOW! Out of the 50 or so new corals we got at least 90% are SPS fragish. Acros, pocilipora, monti both cap and digi. TONS of color for small frags just out of the bag. Also got a bunch of zoos including PINKS, redish orange, and some that have not even opened yet. Come ASAP to get first picks. NONE of the new corals over $35 and many (at least half) at $20.
  5. Put a piece of dark paper or cardboard between the two forks of the buld and you should be able to see the "less intense" bulb glowing.
  6. We finally got the stands in just last week. Kind of a pain in the butt to put together, but a little nicer than the nano cube stands.
  7. I'm guessing you are talking about 1/2 of the PC bulb on each side? If this is the case, are you sure that the bulb is going out? Current's "Dual Actinic" has two different nm of actinic light on each bulb and one of the sides looks VERY much like they are not working. With the bulb running it will appear that only one side is running but in reality they are both firing. If you already know this, I apologize for repeating the info. We have not had a single return on the OO out of selling at least 30-40 fixtures with the halides. Also, with out getting into too much with other stores return/warranty policies, ALL current light fixtures have a one year warranty. We simply replace the light off the shelf or if it's not in stock we will have an entire new light in the shop in less that 4 days. That is one of the reasons we went with the Current fixtures--the return policy. Coralife is now sending out replacement PARTS instead of replacing the fixture. As much as I like the Coralife fixtures, I don't want to have to tell a customer that they have to wait for Coralife to send out parts in hopes that that is what is causing the problems, all the while your corals are with out all or part of their light.
  8. Its on our first coral tank when you walk into the saltwater room. We sell the Outer Orbit almost 10 to 1 over the Corallife mostly because of the price and the OO has 130W actinic PCs vs 96W on the corallife. I think if I ever used one of these fixtures on a home aquarium I would go with the Corallife just because of the external ballast.
  9. Hey Everyone, We have some cool new stuff coming in Thursday afternoon. Please let us know if you have any questions. 10. As always RCA would like to donate some grab bags and door prizes, if someone can swing by the store to pick them up it would be greatly appreciated.
  11. We have the Current Outer Orbit 4' on one of our coral tanks, and for the most part I really like it. Unlike the Corallife the Outer Orbit has its ballast built-in to the fixture so there is definately some heat issues, but we suspend it about 16" from the water so not that big a deal for us.
  12. Yes we do have some Tank Raised Ocellaris Clowns and some nice xenia frags.

  19. Salt has arrived! If I'm not here you must let the guys now that you are part of the Austin Reef Club group buy.
  20. The salt has been ordered and will be here on Friday evening.
  21. Hey Jim, On some of my older MH units it could take a few minutes (up to 15 or more) for the lights to refire after the power has been cut. I think this has more to do with letting the ballast cool down, but during that time there is no light being produced from the bulb. I'm not saying that this is true on all my past set-ups but on a few. I would give them a few minutes to see if the ballast will refire after a power outage.
  22. It looks like I can get the 200 gallon Tropic Marin PRO down to $64.99 + tax (normal $89.99). To make this work we will have to buy at least 20 buckets. RCA will take 5 so if you guys can get close to 15 buckets then its a go. Lets get a list going. Also because there is almost no margin on this I will have to ask that no one use any trade in credit. Thanks RCA....5 hammondegge....2 rprew.....2 aquadoc....2 fishypets...2 gkarshens...1
  23. I will get some prices at different breaks on Monday and let you all know.
