  1. I would highly recommend the Tunze over the wave 2k. I have a Wavebox and have seen the 2k in action.

The 2k is mostly mechanical as you mentioned which makes is way more prone to problems, The band at the top that turns it doesn't last long being that its over saltwater and starts to make noise. The Tunze is basically a powerhead so its only moving part is the prop inside. If your Tunze wave box breaks you can get parts locally usually that day (my prop broke and Bruce at Aquatek made a special trip to Rogers to get the part that day! What service!)

I have never seen anyone run a 2k wave box for a long period of time, most people I know that have had them eventually got wave boxes.

I would spend the extra money and get the one that will last and has great brand reputation. Plus the Tunze importer is in Austin and we love to support our local businesses!

  2. I would stick to basic clean up crews at first.

Nasarius snails (my fav sand sifters)

    Nerite (my fav grazers.)

Trochus snails (best all around snail if you ask me )

    Blue or red leg Hermits

Don't add starfish or shrimp until your tank is a little more established because they are way more sensitive to changes in water chemistry. And please don't add anything until your Ammonia, Nitrate, and Nitrite are all at 0 ..

All the local fish stores will gladly test your water and I would recommend it even if you are testing your own just to get a conformation because depending on what brand of test kit you have they may be more tricky or less accurate then others.

  3. In the mean time I would recommend listening to some of the many pod cast out there that talk about cycling tanks and such. They are a great source of information that can be entertaining at the same time

  4. I cycled my tank with minimum lights but I did have them on for a few hours a day. If your rock isn't cured you do not need to drop shrimp in your tank. Your rock probably has enough dead and decomposing organisms to start the cycle. You would drop a dead shrimp in a tank that had base rock that did not have any dead or decomposing organisms on it to start the ammonia spike.

I don't really see anything on your rocks to worry about. You cant miss it when the cycle is finished because you will have an algae bloom. Just be patient and keep us updated.

  5. Anybody use their tanks and stands? They look fantastic on-line but I haven't see these in person or heard any reviews for those that own them. How is the pricing?

I need a sharp looking tank as it will go in the living room and the wife needs to approve ;)

I dont have any experience with them personally but Ive heard they are good tanks. I would ask Carlos at Rivercity Aquatics.

  6. I won't be able to make it my sister and her husband will be in town. I guess you didn't need the hand truck and carpet movers after all. :)

Yes we did use the carpet movers and they worked great. We had enough people to get the tank tilted without using the hand truck though. Thanks for the help.
