  1. This mother colony was overgrowing my Natusa and I had to break it up:

  2. This is a nice morph of purple monti cap. I fragged the piece for removal as my mont's have tried to overgrow my other SPS. It develops a very intense purple color and I have found it to be very easy to raise and care for. I am in NW Austin and frags are $10 each. Other Mont's available along with a purple/pink birdsnest frag.

I have lots of these and the red digitata shown in the last pic will be fragged as you all come to buy. We'll frag off 1-2" pieces of this great red piece.

PM me to make arrangements to pick up.

I'll post larger photos later. My export settings were not ideal from Aperature for this attempt, but it will get you all started. I'd like to move these pieces between now and Sunday. I'll be available fairly liberally Friday, Saturday and Sunday for pickup.

    Best regards,

    Mike

  5. I have plenty of this digitata. If I run out of mounted pieces, we'll frag off some more for you. I won't be home on Saturday, but I have messaged you instructions on how we can get together. Check your PM's and we'll get together Sunday afternoon or Tuesday. No worries on supply.

  6. RedPlating1.jpgI have 5 or six frags of plating Montipora in the red variety. Frags are 4 weeks old. Of these 3 are small and mounted on plugs at about 1". Two of these are nice chunks, probably 2" square. Fast growing, hardy!

Available Friday all day and then on Sunday late afternoon. No Saturday pickup. Located in NW Austin 183 at Anderson Mill. Easy to get to!

  8. I have been fortunate with my green slimer, but it wants to grow out of my tank. I trimmed it aggressively 4 weeks ago and have had the frags mounted since then. They are ready to go home. They are bullet proof to alkalinity swings and are a hardy addition to any tank. Fast grower for sure with good calcium and light. Frags range from 1" to 2 1/2". I have had this mounted for 4 weeks now and it is doing well. $10 per frag and I have 4 available. Bullet proof tank raised specimen. I'll be available all day Friday and then late Sunday afternoon for pickup. Traveling on Saturday and most of the day Sunday. Located near Anderson Mill and US 183 in NW Austin inside of 620.

    Thanks,

    Mike

  9. I have had this mounted for 4 weeks now and it is doing well. $10 for the frag. I have included a picture of the mother colony so you can see what's possible. Color of photo is not ideal. Medium to low placement in tank is ideal. Bullet proof tank raised specimen. I'll be available all day Friday and then late Sunday afternoon for pickup. Traveling on Saturday and most of the day Sunday. Frag is about 1"

    Thanks,

  10. I think that you will find that the polyurethane based "gorilla glues" will set too slowly to mount frags. It might work brilliantly to glue live rock for tank scapiing. For mounting frags, I have had great luck with the cheapy super glue. $1.50 a package. Works great for me.

  11. This is a great engineering challenge. I am a big believer in knockoff engineering so when I think of a wood stand, I immediately head to the LFS and scope out how the commercial boys do it. I have an Oceanic 120 gallon and the stand made by said company. All uprights are one-by stock. Honestly, I think it is MDF and not even baltic birch marine grade plywood. Now, I would never, never build the structure of a cabinet with MDF. I would highly recommend the marine grade plywood though. The carcass of the cabinet made with baltic birch and having doubled uprights in the corner and two foot centers would make a strong as a brick sh-t-house carcass. The doors could then be easily fabricated as slab front, flat doors(contemporary, not raised panel style) by purchasing MDF veneered sheet goods. Both the baltic birch and the veenered MDF cored sheet goods are available at what was once called Paxton Woods in South Austin. You can google Paxton Woods to find their phone number. It is a cool, huge place that will sell to DIY guys.

You can over build the stand with 4x4's, but you are going to give up a tremendous amount of space beneath the tank because of the stand super structure. Take some time to look under a commercial stand. I think you'll see that you can be smart about materials and net out a huge gain in space in your cabinet.

For my 180 build, I am going to fabricate a steel square tubing frame and then wrap it with a wood carcass to allow for a four foot span with no uprights cluttering access to the sump. After eight years of fighting access issues to my sump under my 120, I can think of nothing that will be nicer in a new system. We do after all, spend a lot of time under our tanks doing maintenance.

I would help you build this thing in my shop, but I am currently involved in a huge kitchen remodel project and do not have shop time available to take on a project. If you nose around, maybe you can find somebody with a nice cabinet saw and shop to help you get your stand going.

  12. I have an Oceanic 120gal. It is a glass tank with Starfire on the front. I removed the center brace about a year ago. I did this after receiving intel from a guy that had once sold these tanks and said that he removed them without ill effects routinely. That being said, if your tank is acrylic or low end glass, I would not recommend the practice.

  13. I combine my one cup of carbon and a tablespoon of GFO in this reactor from bulk reef supply.

(Ack, wouldn't allow link to jpg on BRS site! Sorry, no picture)

I have had no issues with blowing any media out since there is a valve to allow flow rate to be tune from the outfeed spurred off my return line. I think it is fairly priced and I have found it to be useful for running these two media together and changing them monthly. Keeps things neat and sump clutter free!

  14. Anybody that wants to come over and visit is welcome. I am happy to play reef tank any Friday afternoon as it is my "personal development day". I usually train retrievers until noon or two o'clock but I am back from the country side in the afternoon. My setup isn't out of control yet so I don't have anything really wowing to show at this point.
