  1. depends on what you are keeping too. i keep everything. some might say i am over'flowing'. the fish behave normally though, they even seem to enjoy playing in the currents and i suspect it may make them stronger. at some point this much flow behaves diffently than streams of water. it is more like walls of movement pushing back and forth and swirling. tunze 6080 (2250gph) mag 9.5 return (950 probably adding 700 to the tank) 4 MJ1200s on alternating cycles (600 at any moment) i could get by without the MJs entirely but i use them behind the rock mostly, and to confuse the 6080 current a little. if you are looking to add more buy the tunze 6080 you wont regret it. or better yet the 6100 if you want to upgrade tank size and use a controller in the future.
  2. what size tank? i have been surprised every time that i add flow by just how much current the fish will tolerate. i am running 3500 gph in a 55g right now and i think that is just about enough. i have never experienced a cyano problem in this tank though i have seen it in our smaller seahorse tank that has considerably less flow.
  3. IME flow is most critical in eliminating cyano as well as reduced nutrient.
  4. the short time out of water should not harm the bacteria
  5. i regretfully will not be able to make this one, that is the date of our baby shower and i would really like to be allowed to see the baby when he/she is born. have more fun without me blob7.gif
  6. i'll do it. where are you moving to? south austin?
  7. thanks for the response randy. he passed away today. i am clueless as to what may have happened though. he was healthy one day, blind the next, and dead one day later. has anyone ever had that happen before?
  8. Any suggestions on how to feed a blind fish? My mandarin seems to have lost its sight. Otherwise healthy and was eating mysis. He is in a seahorse tank and has little competition at feeding time.
  9. the aragonite should bubble when exposed to a weak acid like vinegar (if you get an opportunity to test it. the silicon sand will not react to vinegar.
  10. did i miss it somewhere?....what is your nitrate level?
  11. do you have any nitrate? if it is above undetectable a new skimmer or less feeding may remedy your problem. a phosphate reactor may help too. but if it is not really bad then it may just be a cyclical bloom and will recede on its on. oh and lights, did you change bulbs or increase your photo period?
  12. i would be happy to share the carpets. i must have misunderstood you mike. perhaps i thought you were talking about the acans that were sold. i will place some rubble up against these to see if i can catch some moving. i will let you both know when they do.
  13. that's too cool. great idea.
  14. I will bring you some free new member starter frags
  15. plus the added heat that you have to remove from the house and/or tank. still it doesnt amount to much.
  16. If there really must be a next step you should consider SE and VHO actinics. uhhhhh, seriously happy3.gif
  17. you are a sick man.....dont you know that the first step in healing is to admit you have a problem....you must return to denial quickly.
  18. cut away, but it is better to glue rubble next to them and them pull it off when the zoas hop on. they are known to produce a nerve toxin though. palythoas (or protopalythoas, i cant remember) can be especially potent, best to use gloves when handling them a lot. and watch they dont squirt you in the eye.
  19. mike, that's great. i love it when everything is happy. the lights obviously contributed, but there is a lot more that you are doing right to get the tank to thrive. i would stick to the lights that you have and enjoy them. everything changes with light intensities and your tank needs to adjust. algaes are going to grow faster and consume more nutrients and the cleanup crew will grow from eating the algae and the coral will grow faster and consume more calcium etc......etc. best to let it balance out and wait for the really big tank. that said, i just doubled the light on my 55, running one 400w mh and 190w of actinics, and it looks great! dontknow.gif laughing5.gif
