  1. ive seen the tunze box at aquatek, and provides short quik bursts of flow that seem to affect the whole water column. the wave2k has a slot at the top, and one at the bottom, and there is a plate inside that moves up and down. when the plate moves up, water is pushed out the top slot, while water is drawn into the bottom slot. and then it reverses direction and works in the oposite manner.

the only problem i could imagine with the wave2k is that it might kickup sand when blowing from the bottom, and then draw it into the unit when it reverses direction. i cant say that for sure because ive never used one, but its just a though. another thing i dont know is how fast it pushes water, which essentially affects how often it changes direction. vice versa actually. i dont think you can controll the speed tho. with the tunze unit cant you hook it to a controller?

  2. is it a sump tank, of a trickle filter box? i was looking for it by google, to see what it is, but was only able to find trickle filters... can you provide a link to the product? or maybe a pic of it?

  3. how framiliar are you with the application of a sump? all you need to get it running is an overflow box, some drain line, the sump, a return pump, and retun line. its pretty easy to set up. you can then get a small clip on light and add some macro algae to your sump to help with nutrien export. you can also add your heater and skimmer to the sump to keep it out of view in the main display.

  4. dont most people, and lfs's keeping a tank with fish only keep salinity at around 1.023? the only time people raise salinity to 1.025 or higher is when keeping coral. if your param test results are what you say they are, ide bet that the water you got your fish from is in the range of 1.023 and when you introduced them into a SG of 1.027, it would probably be enough to push them over the edge. even with a 2 hour acclimation, that wouldnt be enough. an acclimation to such a varied SG should be done over many days!

  5. you said you added rocks right? how much rock did you add? more rock equals more water displacment. the less water you have in the system, the quiker its going to heat up. but that only means the water tempurature will rise and lower quiker because there is less water, it doesnt neccesarily mean the water will get hotter than what it was before you added rocks...?

  6. i bet if you look at www.regalplastics.com youd probably be able to find something if its available commercially? at that website they offer all types of plastics from colored acrylic, to millitary grade and bullet proof acrylic. ide guess that if something like what your looking for is available, they would have it. that might not be the right website tho? it might be www.regalplastic.com ? you might have to search for it? i know the regal part is right

  7. im not sure if all zoanthids have the same toxin, but id bet they do...? the toxin contained within the zoanthid is called PALYTOXIN and is one of the most potent, and deadly toxins know to man at this time. way back in the day, tribal islanders used the toxin from zoanthids on thier spear tips to help kill prey while hunting.

a really sad story i heard of once, was about a guy getting ready for a frag swap. he had a bunch of different corals in buckets getting ready for transport. in one of the buckes were a bunch of zoanthids heading for the swap. sometime during the seperation of corals, the guys dog drank out of the zzoanthid bucket, and died shortly afterwards. the guy telling the story (who it happend to) said when he first noticed his dog was looking ill, it was only like an hour after the dog drank the water. he took the dog to the vet, they couldnt do anything, so he took the dog home, and the dog died like 7 hours later. i think from the time the dog drank the water, untill the time the dog died was only around 14 hours or something. alot of thoesdetails are probably way off, but i remember the dog had died almost within the same day as drinking the zoanthid water.

so yes, it is a very good idea to use protection when dealing with any coral! ive had experiences with swolen and itchy hands myself after placing and fragging corals bare handed. one time my lips actually started to itch. dont know exactly what brought that on?

  8. hi andrew. i wasnt sure if i should join up or not because i hardley ever have time to get on the computer, and when i am, im normally on RC. i didnt want to join and end up neglecting this site by never coming on, and eventually forgetting my password or something? we'll see how it goes? i also dont wanna risk coming on here and saying something stupid to somebody i might actually meet some time? ill never meet 98% of the people i talk to on RC! so let this be the first of many stupid things ill say from here on out.
