  1. Beautiful. I lost a wall octo to the same bout of bjd. One branching hammer had it, but I was able to remove the infected branch. Fragging the walls didn’t save them Thank you again for the new hammer!

  2. [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]. It was in a box of fish stuff I got with my tank years ago. I just stumbled across it today while cleaning and tossing stuff out.

  3. BRS has a good video on feeding. I’ll see if I can find it. They suggest not rinsing. The tiny particles you’re ringing down the sink are the ones small enough for the corals to eat. He said when the companies manufacture the food, it’s already rinsed and clean, so no need to again. BTW, How do you rinse a mysis cube?

  4. Before I upgraded, I ALWAYS had high phosphates in my 55. Ty tested my water once and said that was the first time he’d ever seen the reactant turn the water sample blue. [emoji15]. It was suggested that bc they were so high for so long, that my rocks just kept leaching the PO4 back out. So, even when I’d do a water change, the PO4 never went down bc it was in the live rock. Don’t know if it was true, but it made sense. I used new rock in my upgrade, and have had much better levels

  5. I like that magnet. I have 1” thick glass and it’s strong enough to go through it. I saw a post from Rory about doing a frozen food bulk buy and getting free (or splitting) shipping. I’m not sure of the details tho. He may have already done it.

  6. I try to clean all powerheads monthly.  Other pumps it's more like annually, or if there is a noise

I’m curious why not the other pumps more often? I know powerheads gunk up, but wouldn’t the same be true for all the other moving parts throughout the system?

  7. A penductor and a random flow generator work a little differently. It might be a good idea to try the penductor. I'll research it a little more. Also, I believe random flow generator reduce the amount of flow and can clog easily.

Yes, the random flow generator wasn’t what I was looking for at all. And I’m glad you said that about flow.... bc it greatly reduced flow. All the videos I watched showed way more. The examples added microbubbling to show the flow. I also did that, but can’t share videos on Tapatalk. It’s a huge difference. They’re in my fish drawer if you’d like to try them out. [emoji6].

  8. Tank husbandry is very important. Some of it is a big pain in the rear! Besides water changes (excluding Ty and Jennifer if she wants to pretend [emoji6]), how often do you do the real cleaning? Return pumps, reactor pumps, ATS pumps, Light fans, sump bottoms, etc. Set schedule or wait for build-up?

  9. I met a guy last week who swears by them. He ran (currently runs?) a 300 gal mixed Reef with no powerheads bc he hates the look of wires. Had 2 penductors and said that was perfect. I recently obtained some of those 3-d printed things that go on the end of the locline to create random flow. They fit well, did create random flow, but not near enough to take the place of my powerheads. I don’t think that’s their purpose anyways. But in order for them to work effectively, I had to have my pump on super high. The splashing water was too loud

  10. Lol. Thanks Chris, but I have two. [emoji51]. I’ve got the 150 I got from you and the 250 I bought for the controller. I Connor get the ebb and flow I’m looking for. I think I’ve tried every program and variation. Even the pre programmed ones. [emoji1745]‍[emoji3601]. I’m sure it’s operator error. Lol

  11. Here is my feeding funny of the week.
Had my hot tea cup on the counter tonight. Decided it was time to feed the fish. Popped out a few frozen cubes to put in the feeding container. Managed to put 2 in the tea. Yes I did drink them. Walk and chew gum at same time... not me.

[emoji1785]. You win. Sure that was tea!?

  12. I’ve said it. I don’t like them. The only reason I switched from my mp40 was bc my tank was so close to the wall, the dry side of the mp40 wouldn’t fit. I got a good deal on a maxspect 150 and loved the slim magnet and if fit perfect between tank and wall. Didn’t like that I couldn’t control it... so, on Black Friday I got a 250 with controller and now can control both gyres. They’re only set on 10% and I still have an mp40 in the back. [emoji849]. I don’t like how the gyre is either blasting the heck out of things, or no flow at all. I’ve tried every program, every speed, every turn of the barrel, etc. Someone told me about penductors. Or eductor. Does anyone use these on their returns instead of powerheads?

Ah! The link Jolt shared. Ive never seen those. Thank you for the insight. Never heard of him. I bet I could find the answer to my last (and all) my questions in his writing.
