  1. Anyone had a problem with zoanthids becoming discolored. Right around the flesh of the polyps there is some dark gray coloration . Wondering if this is a sort of type fungus? :D My RPEaters turn from red to pink  . They looked great for the longest time and all of the sudden they turned pale. I checked for predators and nothing. Everything else seems to be doing fine. Maybe its time to replace MH bulbs. Any thoughts?

  2. Irishtexan - No worries, glad I'm not the only one.

    FYI,

I kept the 2 clowns separated for 24 hours. Reintoduced the older clown. We had about 45 minutes of fighting. The older clown seemed to be saying i'm in charge. This morning they were sleeping side by side!

    Thanks for all help. . . .

That's wonderful......happy to hear they settled in. Enjoy :D

  3. Hey sorry to butt into your thread, but I am having the exact same problem wit my 2 perculas. I have had one for about 6 months and he is only about 1in long. The new one is about 1cm bigger than him and they keep fighting. The old clown is in his BTA and the new one is trying to get into it too but the old clown wont let him. Im worried that they will hurt themselves!

    Advice needed!

ps-dapettit I dont mean to hijack your thread! Sry!

What I would do is just keep an eye on their behavior, eventually the larger will become the female, take over the anemone and will later allow the male to join in. Have you seen any physical damage on either fish? If not, let it be.....they will settle in. If you see some damage on either one.....I would separate IMO.

Good Luck, and let me know how it turns out :D

  4. They are both Ocellaris Clown and are about the same size. No anemone. Should I still keep them separated or let them fight it out? The fighting was relentless last night before I separated them. . .

In my experience with true perculas, maroon, and pink clownfish........it is best to have significant size between the two fish. Otherwise you will have a dead fish....whoever is the most dominant will win. Is there anyway you could exchange either one for different size?

    Good Luck with the situation.

  5. Have had several clown deaths over the last couple of weeks with one survivor. Introduced new clown to tank today and boy it was the "The Thrilla in Manila!" Finally isolated the old clown in a breeder tank. Will this help? All other fish, six line waarse, royal gramma seem to get along with the new fish.

What kind of clownfish do you have? It is best if you introduce a large and small fish........large one will tend to become the female (the boss) and the subordinate becomes the male. Do they have and anemone?.......once the hierarchy is settle, you will definitely enjoy their personalities and how they communicate with each other.

  6. If you have a spare tank, lighting, circulating pump, skimmer(optional) and maybe a hang over filter pump (optional) you could do it. You could start by seeding off from a previous rock with coraline or maybe even coraline you scrape off the tank (walls). What we used to do.....every time we made water changes on the main tank; we add the water that's been disposed to curing tank. Strong lighting seems to be a big plus on getting things running, but its not a matter of being able to....but to have patience; like anything else in this hobby you have to wait and let cure.

Give it try and good luck!

    Cindy :)

  7. Have you tried feeding it mysis? We had 2 LWB in our seahorse tank and they were ravenous eaters. They seem to enjoy the mysis we were feeding the seahorses. We got this blennies from Horizon Pets......and Steve fed them mysis, every single one of the blennies looked plump and eating well. Give it try and see if it likes it or not. Just a suggestion-

    Cindy :D

  8. Checked Pet Connection, sometimes they have true perculas. You can tell by their pattern in the band of colors. We got a pair, they were in separate tanks, but one was larger than the other. Didn't seem to be a problem with these two little guys (they were so small: 3/4" and 1"), I was a little worry because they were wild caught but, within 30 minutes to an hour they established themselves w/anemone. IMO they have unique personality and coloration (black lining) is bolder. Good Luck. :)

  9. I'm very reluctant to this particular dotty. From what I read on other forums and some of the experts; this fish can be quiet aggresive. Although, if you have a large tank you can accomodate ample space for the fish that you mention of acquiring. The firefish will probably recover if fed with enriched food, and it will heal (IMO). Check out orafarms.com/dottybacks. May I suggest 2 books that are handy when you are at LFS:

1.) A PocketExpert Guide Marine Fishes by Scott W. Michael and 2.) A PocketExpert Guide Reef Aquarium Fishes by Scott W. Michael

The second book lists the best fishes for reef aquariums. Good Luck

    :D
