  1. I've got a coralife skimmer on my tank. It's a bit overkill, but it does a good job of keeping the water pristine. You'll want to do some modifications to them to keep them from overflowing and running properly. Once they get through their break-in and finicky stage, there a decent skimmer.
  2. Welcome to Austin. When is the next reefcast podcast going to be online? I've enjoyed listening to those.
  3. Look for the ones that use an iron compound to bind the phosphate. I think phosban uses iron. I've used phosguard in the past, and it seems that it doesn't work very well.
  4. Maybe just talking about nano tanks in general (setup, upkeep, etc.). They seem to be all the rage now. I've only had one for about a year, but I've learned a lot about them, and would be willing to share info about them. I'll try and post pics of my tanks soon, I keep meaning to take some.

    I need some chaeto

How much do you need? I can probably spare a small handful right now (about a 2" cube). The only problem with it is that it has caulerpa intermixed.
  6. I hope it works well for you. I love fluid dynamics.
  7. What size powerheads do you have? If they aren't big enough, they won't be able to move enough water. You might try putting one on the right-hand side, towards the top, in the middle front to back, and one on the lower front left-hand corner. This might give you a convection current through the tank. If you're trying to increase flow, be careful about two powerheads streaming at each other. This can give you some good random flow, but the streams then cancel out each other. Think more of the flow patterns sliding past each other, rather than head-on.

I searched "saltwater reef clubs in austin" in a GIS and this came up. My inhabitants in my 10g include some brown polyps, a few mushrooms, a fragged GSP that is slowly growing after I removed the rock that was messing with my tank, xenia, a leather, hammer coral, candy cane that grows like a weed, red gonipora, 6-7 different zoos, and a false clown named Henry. I may get a monti cap soon to try my hand at some sps corals.

Hello all, I got bit by the reefing bug about a year ago. Seems as if I've found a good spot to talk shop with the locals. I've got a 10g reef tank at home, and 2.5g reef tank in my office. I'll try and post some pics of the 10g soon (the 2.5g needs some cleaning up done before I'll show it). Looking forward to meeting people at meetings, frag swaps, etc.
