  1. It was great meeting all of you that I hadn't met before except online and there were even folks there who haven't been to ARC yet. Thank you Drew for scoring us the location. Having some one bring me a bloody mary and quesadillas while learing about reef stuff was perfect. John gave a 20 minute presentation on the different eating habits of our livestock and was extremely well prepared. I was amazed at your level of detail and know you put a lot of time into the presentation as well as getting all the "ingrediants" ready for the meeting. On top of the excellent presentation, and the thrill of watching at least 10 different kinds of seafood, a fruit and a veggie get whipped together in a 500w mixer, the food was FREE. Thanks to all who pulled together to get this done. It was well worth it.
  2. I may be a little late since my twins bday party goes until 1 but I hope to be there and I would definitely want to be in on the food.
  3. How large is your main tank? As for aggression, mine has been fairly docile but all the tank mates have been together for 2 years so while I have seen the MM blenny go after the LMB, it was pretty tame and the LMB just scooted out of the way. No fights to speak of. Were you keeping them apart for a QT? If so, you may want to increase the time period to at least for weeks, and I know some people keep them in isolation for 6 weeks. How tiny is the tank they are in?
  4. Obligatory, "If you end up parting out" Post I would take the mag 7 and an mj or 2.
  5. I am going on vacation next week but I am wanting to order from reeftopia or KC when I get back (Oceanhomes, I don't have anything against ordering with you, I just don't know your prices/shipping). Anyone need to replenish their crew?
  6. Try a clip of nori. If you don't know about it, just go to your HEB in the asian foods section and you should be able to pick up a 10 gram pack for under $3. I feed 1/4 of a sheet 5 of 7 days in the morning and my algae eaters love it. An asian foods market would have an even larger selection of seaweeds like kombu and other noris but I have just used the stuff from the HEB in my neighborhood. To answer your orignal question, I seriously doubt those blennies would eat a cleaner shrimp. I wouldn't put them in to clean your fish, though. I have two cleaners and seven fish the only fish I ever getting a good once over is my lawn mower blenny. The cleaners wave their "whiskers" around constantly trying to encourage the fish to come by but the LMB is the only one who takes them up on it. They actually will jump out at the fish if say my tang glides by to close. They must be frustrated
  7. Do your blennies look anything like this, ej? This particular one was collected in the Gulf and is supposedly a Mollie Miller blenny. "She" has tons of spots on her, around the mouth and gills especially, that make her look like she is breaking out with parasites. So long as the spots are bilateral I think you are ok. Even if it is a solo spot, I wouldn't be too concerned unless it stopped eating. Mine scared me badly a few weeks ago and was fine after a few days. I am so glad I didn't tear the tank down trying to get a QT started. As for what they eat, mine is a huge pig. It loves nori - so much that it rides it like a magic carpet on the clip, but it also eats Form 2 flake, mysis and cylopeeze now. It has the most character in my tank and is almost like a dog begging for attention.
  8. Thanks, Robt. I will check out AROs site. I am still trying to figure out my mj-mod. Getting closer to testing I hope...
  9. I found an electric vho ballast for fairly cheap (50% retail). I have a 440w with an icecap 660 with two 10000 k and two actinics. I'd like to run the actinics on the "new" ballast and the daylights on the 660. Do the wiring harnesses from the 660 work for other VHOs as well? I'd like to be able to run actinics for an hour before and after the daylights turn on and off and hope this would work. What do you think?
  10. So I am leaving for Chicago in a few weeks and will be gone for seven days. I can probably have the person who will feed the cats drop a nori bomb in the morning for our finned friends but there is no way I can walk them through cleaning the skimmer, checking make-up water, feeding and dosing. Any takers? I have no frags, unless you want GSP but I could reward you with wine/booze or even cash
  11. Thanks for the replies. I just used my last tube of gel after a turbo went nuts and pushed my zoa encrusted turbo shell (thought it was a friend maybe?) and when I took out the piece of tonga branch it was on, a rock of micro-zoas came off as well. When is that group buy for the gel going down again ;-)
  12. I picked up a frag several weeks ago and it just doesn't look too healthy in my tank. I noticed that some of it has come loose from the rock it was attached to. Is there some way to get this colony reattached to new rock?
  13. I will take a tube, John. How should I get you funds?
  14. I like a man with multiple hobbies that are outrageously expensive. You have your priorities straight. icon_thumright.gif Which B&Ws are you getting? I loved checking out the Nautilus ages ago at a local hi-fi store. I was recently back and they had the $10k pairs (or was it for a single? confused2.gif )
  15. If you set your speakers' output to 70 db during the test signals you should be just fine. You would need sustained, specific frequencies to generate the harmonics needed to crack a tank filled with water. I am not sure of the physics of it, but I think you are very safe as far as cracking a tank goes. Now how your fish will react to the movie is something else If your receiver doesn't have automatic room calibration and you need a db meter I have one. So... whatcha gettin? ps- I agree with Robt. Sea bass get extremely large and have big, big mouths.
  16. Hay-suess that sounds terrible! I neglected my teeth throughout college and grad school and had to have my gums "planed" which means tissue peeled back and a rotozip applied to the calcification of crud :-) I had the fun gas throughout the entire procedure and was listening to great music and it still sucked. I can only imagine what you are going through. Dentists wig me out. Thinking about them causes a shiver sometimes. Hopefully, you got a 'script for the good stuff and if not go find out why not
  17. three gels and one accel. pls
  18. Wow Ed. That is the ticket. That from your tank?
  19. Thanks John. I will ask Denton next time I run into him. Is he online ever?
  20. Since the Elmer's gel I used takes an entire .5 tube to keep my leather on the rock notwithstanding the wandering turbo or 4, I am in.
  21. I picked up a small yellow tonga frag this weekend and the color is nice but it doesn't quite have the number or length of polyps I want for my tank. Anyone have one like John's at AA they can frag a piece off of?
